There's been a great back and forth going with UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre and the former champ Matt Hughes in the aftermath of UFC 87. We mentioned last week that Hughes wrote on his blog and said during a radio interview that he thought the GSP-Fitch fight was boring.

Hughes (pictured on the left w/The Sports Pig & Chuck Liddell) says he has gotten some heat on the web for "disrespecting" St. Pierre. GSP sounded bent during an interview with The Fan 590 when he fired back at Hughes. Hughes responded Monday on his blog by saying:

I never said the GSP fight was boring, the reason I walked out was because I wanted to beat the crowd.

Here is the exact Hughes quote from the radio interview at :41:

"I gotta be real honest though, I was kinda bored with the match."

Hughes also mentioned this blog:

I even had one guy on Yahoo! Sports report that I said that I thought GSP was on steroids. If you go back to my blog and look at what I actually said, I said that I thought that he looked smaller than he has looked before. Never once did I say that GSP was on steroids for this fight. Just goes to show that you can’t trust some of the journalism for the sport out there.

No one on this blog wrote that Hughes SAID St. Pierre was on steroids.

This was the exact line:

"Is this is a thinly veiled attempt at accusing GSP of steroid use?

We may have overstepped a bit in saying that Hughes "accused" GSP of anything. Hughes is correct in saying his repeated comments that St. Pierre looked smaller could've simply been an observation without ulterior motives.

they take his words and try to fill in the gaps. he never said GSP is on steroids. It's kind of like what you fools do with my words....especially The Great White. Try and make something out of nothing. Take notes

I think Cofield ought to be honored that Hughes even took time to notice the crap he wrote. Way to stir it up Cofield. Nice job attempting to justify your "journalistic integrity" with the "he said this....I wrote this" crap.
So Hughes said he was bored...who cares. The guy is entitled to his opinion....he admitted he was there to watch Lesnar. GSP is a rival and Matt doesn't have to jump on the bandwagon and praise everything he does.

Its the media what do you expect, words will be changed without them knowing, just to start a conflict which we all know who would win, once again. But I dont know about this " Bored of the match / wanted to beat the crowd" stuff I've seen him there until the end of the match so i dont know!

I think Hughes is a funny dude. He isn't backing off the boring comments , he was leaving to beat the crowd because the fight was that interesting ha ha ha.

Looked to me like GSP wished he could have done the same but Fitch just wouldn't let him.

Sounds like Cofield put his foot in his mouth and got called on it! Dana must have had one of his boys make the call to Cofield to put him back in line!

Cofield, your "work" is the most blatant form of yellow journalism I've seen in MMA. I know the TMZ style of reporting is hip right now, but you would really benefit from reading stories by accomplished journalists like Josh Gross. Oh wait... the minute he wrote an honest story about the recent incidents surrounding Rampage, you labeled it as character assassination.
    Go find some integrity.

wow! hughes must not be too bright. obviously, the inference that cofield made was that by saying gsp looked smaller, he was accusing him of PREVIOUS steroid use, not current use.
but either way, that was a pretty huge leap on cofield's part, but its all good cuz hughes is a tool!

    The TRUTH
That is funny! Do you like to spark controversy or are you just stupid? The last three fights I have saw Hughes in he got his A** handed to him.
I will bet Serra will beat "Hughes the has been" also.

thats awesome chuck fan. im just f-ing around. im just trying to get ppl going. i dont know if serra will beat him, but i do think it will be closer than i once thought. yeah bro, im not a big fan of gsp. but i give ppl props when they deserve it. his game is as good as anybodys. hughes cant match it. he used to be able to "out muscle" people, but thats not even the case anymore. thiago alves will be the man in that division though. im not just saying that one.

I dont think Hughes will ever beat GSP. Hughes has turned into the welterweight equivalent of Tito Ortiz. Both Matt and Tito can hurt you bad if they get you down, but today's fighters are aware of that and possess the tools to avoid the takedowns. It seems like Tito and Matt will never be good strikers. They only win by ground and pound. They just need to have a match-up that fits their style.....Unfortunately, there aren't that many fighters around they can use their strength on.

You a true mma junkie?? Im not going to say that its the best card they have ever put together but i think you might be getting spoiled by Dana's kindness, not every card can be loaded with champions and #1contenders but having said that its a solid lineup that true mma fans can appreciate
Iceman over Sugar , Marquardt over Kampmann, Hendo over Palhares, Ace over Hammil, and i hope Karo gets beaten down by yoshida

why does everyone say he's done? I'm sure hughes can do just fine against mediocre opponents in the division. to say he's near championship material is a little farfetched. but the dude can still throw down, but not with the best of em anymore. I mean look....his last 3 fights, 2 to gsp (p4p the best fighter) and to Alves whos probably top 3 in the division. He's not going to be wearing the belt again, but hughes can still fight, and he'll get people watching him again.

Hughes is washed up, anyone he fights just has to practice sprawling. I would like to see Luigi Fioravanti vs Matt Hughes. I don't think Hughes would be able to get him down.

#1 Welterweight Fighter in the World: Georges St. Pierre: Already beat Hughes and will do so again.
    2. Jon Fitch: Would destroy Hughes!
    3. Thiago Alves: Already destroyed Hughes
    4. Josh Koscheck: Would beat Hughes
    5. Jake Shields: don't know, Little help someone?
    6. Matt Hughes: He should kick his own a$s. I'd pay to watch that!
    7. Matt Serra: Would probably beat him but I wouldn't bet on it.
    8. Diego Sanchez: Would pick Hughes apart! so yeah he would Destroy him.
    9. Carlos Condit: Would cut him up!
    10. Karo Parisyan: Would Judo toss the hell out of Hughes but I don't think he'd be able to keep him down. So Hughes should beat him.
So there's probably only 2 fighters in the top 10 that he would have a chance with. He's washed up! He's not fast enough to compete with the younger guys. If they want to feed him guys like Dustin Hazelett, Marcus Davis, Josh Burkman, Mike Swick, Jon Koppenhaver etc he might have a chance but none of those with the exception of Warmachine are sure things either.
I'd bet on Swick or Marcus Davis to beat him.

j! i agree that those top 3 could beat hughes pretty handily. koscheck, maybe. that would prob be a pretty good fight. id say hed whoop the rest of them. diego is pretty tough though. carlos condit doesnt even deserve to be named in the same sentence as matt hughes. hughes has been a cocky little punk but hes still an accomplished fighter and was a great champion for a long time. we all have short memories. pot will do that to ya.
