Griffin could miss all of 2009?

The Sun is reporting that former UFC light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin may miss most of 2009 because of the broken hand he suffered in his loss at UFC 92 to Rashad Evans. Pins were placed in the left hand to help the healing process. The British tabloid is quoting UFC sources as saying Griffin won't be back until September at the earliest.

The UFC's light heavyweight roster is deep but Griffin's loss does hurt. He was likely being targeted for co-main event status in July or August (suspended by NSAC until June 27). It could be a blessing in disguise for guys like Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell and Shogun Rua. With Griffin out of the way and a big win in the next fight they could all quickly be in the mix to face the Rashad Evans-Quinton Jackson winner.

When the UFC bought Japan's Pride Fighting organzation, Rua was considered the hottest commodity. The 27-year-old fell out of the mix after suffering a loss to Griffin that was sandwiched between several bad injuries over the last two years. If healthy, Rua could quickly put himself in position for a title shot. He destroyed Jackson in a 2005 fight. Rua says his jiu-jitsu and striking will eventually take out light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans.

HAHA, cofield works for Dana, why would he mention Machida or Silva? Machida for sure deserves the title shot given he beats Silva. I hope Shogun runs through Coleman and then his next opponent and gets a shot soon.

probably broke it throwing those sloppy punches.
about the title shot...pretty crappy page is getting the next shot, should be machida if he beats thiago. if that happened i'd like to see machida fight rashad, winner of that fight should wait for the winner of rampage vs rua should shogun beat coleman, and winner of that gets the next shot at either machida or rashad for the title. makes sense to me, anyone else?

    yea it makes sense
i dont have a prob wit Rampage gettin the shot tho
he was the former champ and defended the title successfully
against a game opponent and champ in hendo
as long as machida vs thiago is # 1 contender I have no problem

I actually have no problem with Rampage getting another shot over Machida/Thiago, but he is the ONLY one I have no problem with. He won it, defended it, then lost it in a close decision. He should have gotten a rematch I thought. But the others (Wanderlei, Chuck, Rua, Coleman) should wait.

hend, rua, luis cane, ace, jardine, wandy, chuck, and coleman all can move up a notch since griffin is hurt
i saw rampage, machida, and thiago silva should be the top 3 contenders tho, and it seems they are

yeah i see your points....i guess worse things could happen than page getting another shot, but i still think machida deserves it first. there's endless opportunities here but i'm sure dana and joe silva will mess it up somehow.

rampage just fought and won, he deserves a shot at the belt. even though he wants to fight forrest more then anything to avenge that loss. machida and thiago silva havent even fought yet so the winner would probably get a shot at the belt after evans/jackson fight, if i happens.

dude i dont know u and im not saying you dont know what your talking about.
but clearly the right thing to do is to give machida a title shot if he beats thiago
    will he earn one
    doubtful
simply because his victories have been impressive but.. not impressive.
his biggest win is over an over the hill tito ortiz
well biggest win in the ufc.
i would like to see him rematch franklin assuming franklin beats hendo. im surew thats what the ufc will do
and i bet u anything dana is going to be rooting for franklin. cuz franklin can make some interesting fights at 205
who doesnt wanna see a liddell vs franklin?

i've got to say that machida really does deserve a shot if he wins against silva. rua, henderson, coleman, chuck, wanderlei, franklin? none of these dudes deserve a shot at the title next. i don't care what they do in their next fights. rampage is the only contender in my mind. everybody else is really low on the pecking order.

I dont see Ace making it in 205. If there are any middleweights to move up, Anderson Silva is who we need to see fighting at 205. I see him giving Rashad a better fight than even rampage. Although I won't count out 'page, I didn't think he would beat Wanderlei. I do agree Machida deserves a shot if he beats thiago at 14-0 and 6-0 (after a win to thiago of course) in the UFC. If Brock gets a title shot in his 4th UFC fight even with a loss, although I know the division LHW is much deeper than HW, then Machida deserves a shot soon. That is barring he doesn't lose, of course. But I would bet 100 to 1 he will have to fight a gatekeeper first (Liddel or Wanderlei).

i'd like to see Liddell/Franklin as soon as Chuck shows us he's not washed up. the game's passed that poorly conditioned, one trick pony by, imo. you need more than standup in mma today and that's all we ever see from him.

Bambino, if Franklin wins though, he basically has to go down to 185 with the TUF coaching gig, unless he finds a way out of it. So Franklin in 205 would be interesting, but who knows if it'll happen.
And how did Forrest get suspended by the NSAC?
