Gina Carano says that she is not the face of women's MMA. She doesn't want the label, she only wants to be known as a fighter. She definitely doesn't want to be famous. I have just one thing to say to that: HONEY, PLEASE.

First off, being the face of women's MMA has made you a wealthy woman. Do you think that your sponsorships, magazine profiles and job on American Gladiator would be around if you weren't the face of women's MMA? You didn't even make weight for your last fight, yet media and the public are still writing about you, searching your name online, and looking forward to your fight on October 4. That translates into sponsorship dollars for you.

Secondly, if you didn't want all of this attention, then why did you invite press to your workout? If you truly don't want people writing about you, then don't invite people who write for a living to your gym. It's not rocket science. If you are just a fighter, then just fight. Don't be an American Gladiator, don't pose for Maxim and don't accept every interview request.

Or you could try this, dear Gina. Enjoy the fact that you are a popular fighter and everything that comes with that title. Thrive in your role as the best known woman in MMA. Make weight for your next fight, win decisively and reap the benefits of being a great fighter. Be an ambassador for the sport and help it grow so that you can pass on the title of the face of women's MMA. Just don't complain about the fame you grew.

What up Maggie couldn't miss the chance to be FIRST! and I'm loving the "Honey please" line *thinking if you would've been a sista from the hood would that would've been b!tch please.. but anyway LOL*
She clearly is the face of women's MMA whether she wants to be or not, but my since of that comment is she's just saying something. Kind of like all pro-athletes (well college ones too) they always have the same canned answers all scripted by their publicists and designed to make them more likeable (and yes more marketable). I mean haven't we seen this all before *in my best Kobe, Lebron, ShaQ, LaDanian voice* "We just wanted to come out and execute and I was feeling good before the game and just trying to let it come to me you know. As far as the fans and the fame I don't really think about that stuff I just concentrate on playing (insert sport of your choice here) and let the rest take care of itself." LMAO

Maggie, I like your blogs and you tell it like it is. It's clear to see you have a mind of your own and you're nobody's puppet.
Carano, you did it. Deal with it! Don't screw it up by backpedaling. Take it and run with it.

Did anybody even READ the other article? It was a humbled statement, not a brush-off. She's doing EXACTLY what she needs to do: fight. She didn't title herself that, the media did.
However, she's being RESPONSIBLE with that title. She's going to fight, she's going to represent her sponsors, and she'll get paid for it. That's what a fighter SHOULD be, not just a f_cking mouthpiece like Tito Ortiz.
I'm impressed with her demeanor, personally. She's an example to ALL fighters, not just women.
    Moral: STFU and fight.
(...and Maggie: I hope you got enough hits to further your editorial pursuits. What a load of BS. Spend time watching more fights and less time in the "oh-no-you-dih-eh" world.)

Wow, Maggie has been to the gym and drinking some HATERaide. Gina is a classy fighter and some of the men could learn from her. She is a fighter and that is one of the many things she does. Their are other female fighters out there, seems like the media only looks at Gina though. It is not her fault. I hope she kicks ash in her upcoming fight. I wanna see much more of Gina.
BTW Karl A and Chano, I agree I would run out to buy the Playboy issue with Gina. I would smell her jock strap.

So let me get this straight, Carano is tired of the attention and being labelled the face of MMA, so what does she do? She calls the MEDIA to let them know that she is tired of the attention. Does anyone else see the irony in calling a press conference to complain about all of the media attention she gets?
If she doesn't want to be the face of MMA then all she has to do is fight Christiane " Cyborg " Santos, and she will have her face punched in, an out of MMA.
What she needs to do with her face is stop stuffing it full of food, and then maybe she might make weight for one of her fights.

irishhammer: have you seen Gina fight? she drops bombs too.. don't get it twisted... just because Gina is pretty she is a real and serious fighter on hers (although granted not making weight was unprofessional, but I understand that it was on short notice and coming in between her being on American Gladiators so she didn't really have time to train properly).
Not going to state the obvious about her looks you guys have already done that...
mickey: same to you... man if Gina comes w/ her A game she will whoop on Cyborg...
if you have really followed Gina you'd know she's a serious athlete, but like I said before adding the "professional" part to that athlete title brings in a bunch of other "Hollywood" type stuff that goes along with it like publicists and agents that are the ones to call the press conferences and give you canned lines to say. Let's face it when you don't you become Barry Bonds LOLLOL... but seriously

Smoove, I disagree. I realize Gina is not all fluff; she is a talented fighter and has a chance against Santos. But good lord; Cyborg looks like she drinks D-Bol for breakfast.
I read somewhere that Carano used to weigh around 180 pounds? Anyone else able to verify?

Gina did not "call press to complain about fame" as the title of this blog implies. She held an open workout to hype her fight on October 4th. News Flash, fighters do that all the time!!!!! She happened to respond to a question asked by a member of the media who was there and she responded in a humble way and now she's being accused of complaining about her fame? WTF!!!
What exactly is she supposed to say if she is asked about being "the face of women's MMA"? That she deserves to be in that spot? That's a lose-lose question obviously, since there are people like you out there who complain about a humble response. If she had responded in another way, you would be on here complaining about how she's full of herself.
GSP went on "Inside MMA" and was asked how he felt about being included in the conversation of the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and gave a very similar response to the one that you're complaining about. I don't see you complaining about GSP's response?

Oh yeah, did you ever even consider that it was probably Elite XC that called the press in?
I have another news flash for you. Elite XC is banking on Gina and "Kimbo" to survive. If you think that they're not going to do everything that they can to hype this event, then you are sadly mistaken.

The press and hype is all part of the deal when the company who emaploys you is a " two trick pony ". Elite Xc has two assets, and both assets are diminishing in value every time they're put in front of a camera. Slice is struggling to beat the tomato cans that he is being fed, and Carano can't keep ehr face out of the tomatoes long enough to make weight.
Elite XC will be gone by Xmas, and on their way out they should give us a Cyborg v Carano fight. It's the only decent fight they have left to provide.

If she can't stand the heat she should get out of the kitchen, and believe me, she could do herself, and her career a favor by spending less time in the kitchen.

Women's MMA is a joke. Whenever women fight on a televised MMA card I just exit the room, urinate and then vacuum my living room rug. I could roll out of bed at 4:07am and beat the crap out of Gina Carano.

wow what an unneeded burn on gina if what D said is right about her just responding to a question from the press that EliteXC may have very well set up. And I can see that being the case. Gina im sure knows she is not the best female fighter out there and does not want to have the burden of being the female face of MMA when she very well knows the praise she is getting isn't based on her skills. Dont get me wrong she is highly skilled but not the best female fighter out there.
