In September, we told you about troubled rapper DMX's plans to fight on a December card in Alabama. He has pulled out of the fight with Eric Martinez and is being replaced by everyone's favorite late 90s rapper, Coolio.

Don't sleep on Coolio's chances in the fight. Remember, he has spent most of his life living in a gangster's paradise. Does anything else in his past give you a clue about his chances as a fighter?

-- He has a penchant for getting involved in celebrity sporting events, including celebrity hoops and stock car racing. Does that make him an athlete? Hardly. But it shows that he is willing to try.

-- He won "Celebrity Bootcamp," a reality show that had the goal of helping celebrities hold on to the spotlight for as long as they can lose weight.

-- Earlier this year, Coolio attempted a stage dive during a performance in England. The crowd parted, and Coolio was robbed and injured. Ouch. If an experience like that doesn't make you tough, what will?

Clearly, the man has some training to do. He's 46 years old and kickboxing isn't exactly a skill that people pick up quickly. But if you're in Alabama on Dec. 19 and you have some cash to spend, check it out by buying tickets here. Then, please email us to let us know about your "Fantastic Voyage" with Coolio.

Thanks to Fight! Magazine for the heads up.

Wow...I mean...Come on, Alabama. First you have the amputee fight, now this. I think they also hosted 300+ pound Sylvia versus 45+ year old Mercer. But they do have the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
Excellent use of the strikethrough, Hendricks...and thanks for directing us to the stage-dive story, which is just unbelievable.

This is ridiculous. Eric Martinez was gameplanning and training to fight DMX. Now they pull this switch on him?!
How in the hell is Eric Martinez supposed to prepare to fight Coolio in less than 6 weeks?!

I try to be as nice as I can...but I've been pretty sick lately, so I'm a little irritable. Sorry if I've offended anyone...but if I have, it's probably because you said something I consider stupid.
I can be very funny when the opportunity presents itself. What better opportunity than:
    - DMX scheduled to fight Some Guy in Alabama on the undercard of Butterbean v. Tank
    - DMX angry that he's not allowed to fix the fight, so he backs out
    - Coolio takes DMX's place to fight Some Guy in Alabama on the undercard of Butterbean v. Tank
    - You know...Coolio...the guy who tried to stage dive and instead got swarmed and robbed of his jewelry and shoes.

Nut you must be joking. Ufc,strikforce, dream, bellator, sengoku, wec
And whith the exception of bellator are all turning a nice profit.
And that is sure to change with their new t.v. deal. A fad I think
Not. While I doubt it will ever get as big as D.W. would have us
believe. it's hard to deny mma is here to stay. Now I know your
A boxing fan but that's no reason to wish for the failure of a sport
That millions love. Hey next time you got a minute go to wiki
Look up mma then history and check the history of mixed style
Contests and also check the gracies records against pro boxers.

joe/nut - This is an exhibition kickboxing match, not an mma match. Did you even read the article, or have you not grasped the difference between kickboxing and mma?

joe/nut - Regardless of whether you care about the difference doesn't change the fact there is one. But in your world, boxing seems to be not only the only legit form of combat sports, its also the only legit martial art.

Hey if these guys wanna do it, I say go for it. I don't know what Coolio is doing for income these days but I doubt that he couldn't use a little extra coin from this bout. LOL it would definitely up his street cred!

It's funny, I dont see former athletes and celebrities pickin up a bat and glove and tryin to become yankees, but it seems like every tom dick and coolio has a punchers chance in the cage....

ok, but you both missed the point, but thanks for responding with literal answers to rhetorical parts of my comments. I dont see celebrities trying to play pro ball. That is the point of that, I dont see ving rhames trying to be in NFL just because he is their size, but i bet he could step in a cage with somebody and he would have a shot. Your Heavyweight champ, brock lesnar who I am a fan of, was cut by the vikings in training camp.
and for you matt...every tom dick and coolio has a punchers chance in MMA.

Barry - I don't necessarily deny that, but that seems rather superfluous when this is a kickboxing match. Now does every tom dick and coolio have a punchers chance in kickboxing? Possibly.

i'll accept that matt, but on the other hand...I hardly doubt anything coolio or DMX is involved with will look like anything even remotely related to kickboxing. I am picturing something a little closer to what we see on worlds wildest police videos: prison riots.

Barry - lol I like that comparison of it to world's wildest police videos. Agreed.
Also, lets face, considering the overall level of striking in mma, much of the striking is also akij to world's wildest police videos. Guys like Forrest and Leben are poster boys for that.

Ha, dont even get me started...all the fanboys will be all over us faster than usain bolt if we agree on something like that. They could probably have kept the lights on in brazil last week if they just harnessed some of that energy from the windmills in bonnar-griffin 1.
