Evans preps to fight MMA's Buddy Lee

Leave it to Rashad Evans to come up with another great quip. As he preps for his UFC light heavyweight title shot against Forrest Griffin, he points out that the champ never stops coming and fights through adversity just like another great American warrior: Buddy Lee.

The Lee jeans pitchdoll didn't exactly hit the mark with Evans who says in this UFC 92 preview video that Griffin is just like the guy from Levi's Commercials. Wrong company but still a funny line.

After the jump you can hear Evans speak with the folks from Ultimate Talk on Setanta Sports in the U.K.

Click below to listen to Evans interview:

Ultimate Talk also spoke with TUF8 cast member Junie Browning.

Evans made an interesting point about who will have the better cardio in the fight. He says that Griffin carrying around 240 lbs. when he's not fighting, will cost him on fight night. When was the last fight, you can remember Griffin gassing?

It's a tough one to pick. I'm taking Griffin, somehow, someway I'm taking him as the winner. I wouldn't bet a dime on it though.

The only way Griffin can win is by submisison or decision. I don't think he has the power to knock out Evans. Conversely, I don't know if Evans can knock out Forrest, and I doubt he would submit him.
I predict a close decision. I wouldn't bet on this fight, though.

Well, my money is not on neither, either. Griffin has a great chin and I highly doubt Evans will be able to knock him out so it's either submission or judges. I want to lean toward Griffin basically because he is a tough S.O.B. battling a quick and very athletic guy in Evans. I'm taking Griffin over Evans. Evans'' good but Griffin will survive it out if Evans can not win before the end of the fight.

Forrest chins not bad but he has been hit good and stayed down like when Jardine hit him or when Horn who is not a KO expert ko him with a kick!
So Evans will test it with punches and kicks!
But I think Forrest has come a long way and will do like he did to Rampage and kick his legs until Rashad cant move like he did against chuck.
    Forrest wins split decision

i'm with pretty much everyone else for once. i think forest has developed a machida-like style that will give him an edge in decisions, but rashad has a great chance to knock him out. right now i'd give forest a 5% better chance to win the decision, but that could change closer to the fight.

Please look at Evans record. It is not worthy of a title match. He was lucky to get a draw with Ortiz. He was beat if Ortiz didn't get a point deducted. He has split decisions against average fighters. His only big knock outs came against Sean Salmon { a nobody } and Chuck and he had his eyes closed when throwing that punch. He has not fought guys the level of Forrest { shogun-jackson-jardine-ortiz and even bonnar should be included }. Evans can only win by knockout and anybody can be knocked out by a lesser fighter which wouldn't make Evans a better fighter than Griffin. Evans is a guy who ONLY THREW ONE BIG PUNCH that made him elite in some peoples eyes.

    Boxy55-
I haven't had the pleasure... only been here for a few months; but if ur cool with D rok and the usual suspects, ur cool with me. I agree with u on Evans' record possibly being somewhat padded; but he's still undefeated nonetheless. And he's not just a KO guy, he also has a very good wrestling background. I do, however think Griffin will be his best opponent to date. Personally, I call this one a toss-up: Evans' undefeated record, great striking and wrestling against Griffin's striking, submission, and immeasurable heart (I love any Griffin fight). I really hope they just go at each other for 5 rds... but I'm a fan of both guys, and will be watching on the edge of my seat.

so- is Griffin/Evans considered as the main event (I would assume so), or would it be Mir/Nog for the interim HvyWt Title? And does the interim HvyWt. champ actually get an iterim championship belt? How bout Jackson/Silva? I'm not as interested in this one, cuz I'm not a big Rampage fan; but that should be a good battle too.

Griffin vs Evans ranks on the bottom of my list for this card. Forrest is a cool dude (when he washes) but I haven't been a fan of Evans. Personally, I am excited for the Wandy vs Rampage fight then the Mir vs Nog ( I just hope Mir comes in with some fire and hunger) or else the fight will be one sided. I just think Evans is living it up too much and needs to come back down to earth. Problem is when you have an entourage that always hypes you up; you tend to believe your own hype.

Darkness - Why even respond to racecar2007 or whatever.... How does anyone thing that someone who CAN'T talk CAN type?? I digress.....
Alright, I guess I will be the only one here who thinks that this will be one sided. I picked Evans from jump. IMO, Evans is a smart fighter. I think he will take Griffin down at will and control him. Probably will go decision and most people will call it a lay and pray boring fight. I don't think Griffin has the tools to deal with a wrestler. Once a wrestler of Evans caliber gets on top, any Jujitsu guy will tell you they are DAMN hard to get out from under. I also think Mir v. Nog will be one sided as well. Mir has shown me nothing other than a submission victory over Lesnar because Lesnar made an amateurish mistake. I also think Silva v. Jackson will be onesided. First round KO by Silva IMO, Jackson's head wasn't in it to keep his truck off sidewalks it definitely won't be in it for the axe murder. Should be fun to see though.

    Great White-
I only responded to supercar2007's ignorance cuz Ican2 made the comment "And you wonder why there is a white boy society??? Can't wait to hear your response now Darkness??" I know Ican2 was being sarcastic; but people like supercar are the reason that many whites hate blacks... cuz they live up to the hoodrat, 'thug life' stereotype. So any chance I can get to remind people that we're not all hoodrat thugs, nor do we all support or condone that type of behavior, I'll take it.
As a former wrestler myself, I'll agree with u on Evans' ability to take down Griffin, and possibly win a decision. People talk so much now about Evans' KO ability, but I still think more of him as a wrestler, and I don't think many people can KO Grifiin... he's just too damn tough. He can be outclassed on the ground, though. I think that's Evans' best chance of winning. I also see Silva KO'ing Rampage. I'm now less impressed with Rampage than I was initially every time I see him... kinda reminds me of a trained Kimbo, honestly. A thug street fighter who, even with mma training and lots of $, never quite outgrew the thug mentality. I agree with ur take on Mir; although I'd kinda like to see him somehow pull out a win just to see Brock run through him this time. On the other hand- if anyone, Nog deserves a shot at the title, and I'd like to see him test Brock. Given that Nog was prob. Fedor's toughest test to date, a match-up between Nog and Lesnar could give us some idea of whether or not Lesnar could even challenge Fedor... I'm pulling for Nog.

I rarely post more than once on a topic but I will on this one. This is going to be a great card. This will set up a lot of even better fights in the near future depending who wins. On the topic of how Griffin can handle a wrestler you only need to look at the camp he trains with { couture-henderson-maynard-linland }. That group has a much better wrestling pedigree than Evans could ever hope for. One thing I think people overlook in Griffin is he never panics. He always stays focused even when he is trading toe to toe. DARKNESS: as for being cool with the USUAL SUSPECT, only they can say that. I just coined that term to represent a certain group of posters and ended up bringing out the best in them to add to the debate of that particular post. Needless to say it has been fun!!

not sure why the apparant disrespect toward me, but whatever. All I said was that if u were cool with them, u were cool with me. I'm not an official part of any group or clique here on yahoo; I just like talking mma with people who can actually have an informed discussion about it- many of those people usually being the ones who call themselves the "usual suspects". And from what he says... Nutcracker (formerly HolidayInCambodia) actually formed the group. But he says alot of stuff... I do agree that Griffin's camp has some great wrestlers; but that doesn't necessarily make him one by association. I do think this should be a great fight, and I'm a fan of both guys. So as long as they give each other a good fight, I'll be happy...

No disrespect to you at all Darkness!! Nutcracker-HIC or whomever he is wasn't ever a part of the original debates unless he was using a different handle then. t all started in a blog where I was responding to a sexist comment made to a poster named rebecca and coined a few as Usual Suspects. I have seen enough of NUT or HIC to know he just wants to stir it up especially with his boxing being superior to MMA jabs. No disrespect it is a public forum--post away!!

boxy55 .....From one of the Usual Suspects I actually agree with you about Griffin. Although I'm not a huge fan of the Xtreme Couture guys Griffin will be able to handle Evans wrestling. I wouldn't be surprised if Griffin tries his best Randy impersonation and keep it against the fence for most of the fight then use his kicks to keep Evans away once in the middle of the 'gon.
I think we helped bring out the best in boxy55 as well because he now brings valid points to the table.
