Cagewriter - UFC

There's only so many times Rashad Evans can answer questions about what he thinks of Lyoto Machida's awkward style or if he's angry that he's the underdog. Cagewriter needed to get to the important issues on UFC 98 workout day. Machida drinks his own urine, is Evans worried (1:40 mark)?

"I wonder if they're doing testing for that," said Evans. "That shouldn't be allowed. I'm going to be in the clinch with him, smelling his breath"

Evans then addressed the issue of battling a smelly, unclean fighter:

"I have been in there with someone like that. It's disturbing sometimes. It kind of startles you. You're thinking about the fight, next thing you know you're like 'dang is that me (that smells)? This dude didn't even try to wash nothin.' It's not pleasant at all."

Cagewriter suggested that Forrest Griffin, who often has issues with staph infections, may be one of the culprits. Then the interview took a strange turn as Evans talked about finding himself thinking about how hairy Griffin was during their fight at UFC 92. Somehow Andrei Arlovski and manscaping came up as well. Later today in Part Two, Evans breaks down the fight ... probably not.

I have never understood the disdain some fans have for this guy. He can be funny, engaging, and is a world class fighter. All I can think of is, when he was on TUF Matt Hughes called him a showboat and that kinda labled him. His antics in the cage are no different than an NFL or NBA player or even some other fighters. I just don't get it.
If anyone can match Machida's speed it's this guy. This probably not going to go to a decision, somebody is gonna get caught!

I agree prototype. I think Rashad is awesome, and he has all the qualities of an elite mixed martial artist. Not only is he undefeated after 14 pro fights, which is extremely rare, but he went from being seen as just a wrestler to knocking people out, he's improved with every fight.
I think partly it's because his last 3 fights have been wins against 3 of the most popular fighters in the company. And of course his antics in the ring do contribute a tad. But I really think anyone who thinks he has no chance of beating Lyoto is crazy. It's almost as if Rashad has the best chance of any light heavyweight to beat Lyoto, and that Lyoto has the best tactical ability to avoid Rashad's knockout and takedown attempts. Whatever happens, I know this fight is gonna be great!

Anyone who questions Evans' heart only has to look at the way his game has evolved from being just a wrestler to a now an incrediible striker. He's lean, mean, and hungry and this is going to be a fantastic fight. I can't think of a fight I want to watch more than this one other than maybe Fedor-Lesnar.

I like Evans, and usually find his remarks to be pretty amusing. He better be dead serious against Machida, though, or he's going down.

The old oriental tactic of drinking urine for surplus energy & strengh, should be equated with steroid use. If Machida drinks his urine & stnks at the same time,,,...wow! Rashad has a job on his hands.

That was a funny interview. Machida and his weird habits submission TKO fourth round. Drinking your own urine should only be done if one isstranded in the desert. Really strength and stamina? Manswers shows the acid in it will charge a battery but a person?????? Not buying it.

reminiscent of josh neer's coffee enema, yum. can't wait for this fight, love watching both fighters and it's definitely tough for me to call but I like machida in this one mainly for his stoic profile, not to mention i've been telling people to watch out for him. if he beats rashad and defends his title once or twice (depending on who) he'd definitely have an argument for one of the top p4p. but same goes for rashad with a win or two more.

Rashad is a funny guy, legit champ. I think Machida takes it though.
    .
As far as the stinkiness, it's a lame but effective tactic. Stink messes with your brain.
