It's a done a deal according to MMARated.com. EliteXC has finally tabbed 44-year old Ken Shamrock as the next opponent for Kimbo Slice (pictured knocking out Tank Abbott). They'll face off Oct. 4 in Ft. Lauderdale as the headliner on what could be the promotion's final CBS show.

Yahoo! Sports was tipped off to the fight while at UFC 87. EliteXC placed a feeler call to a staffer asking what the coverage would be like for a Slice-Shamrock fight. The response from the staffer was, "you'll get destroyed by the media."

Clearly, the call wasn't made to me. I don't believe it's an awful decision. There is some intrigue to the fight. Sure, Shamrock is 1,000 years old but he is still a legit mixed martial artist and Slice is not. Can the 215-pound Shamrock get 235-pounder Slice to the ground? If he doesn't, Shamrock is in huge trouble.

Tune in to ESPNRadio1100 (streaming is available) in Las Vegas at 2:30pm PT. We will speak with Pro Elite's Jared Shaw about the fight. MMARated is also reporting that Brett Rogers will get the winner of Slice-Shamrock.

WOW. this should be great. I'd love to see Kimbo get submitted by Shamrock. but at the same time. I could see Shamrock getting knocked out. A Kimbo Win = getting legit vs a named fighter. A Kimbo Loss = you're just some internet sensation.

I doubt it is going to happen but I hope Shamrock is able to get Kimbo down and submit him. Please end this whole myth of Kimbo Slice.

Hey Steve Cofield remember the last fight Shamrock had in the octagon againts Tito. Remeber when Tito just rapped his arms around Shamrock and just carried him across the Octagon like nothing........ I dont think Shamrock has a chance really. But if he were to ever and I mean ever get Kimbo down then maybe he will be able to win with a submission of some kind but I really dont see that happening.

I guess it is cool, but I still would like to see Kimbo fight Brock. They are both in the same weight class and with similar experience. What gives???

This should be an interesting fight,I personally feel that Shamrock is washed up as a MMA fighter and Slice is very inexperienced. I expect Shamrock to attempt to get Slice off his feet. My pick in this fight is Slice by knockout!

Slice & Kimbo would be a good fight. It would, hopefully, solidify Slice as an MMA fighter. However, to convince the public he will have to take on more than just Shamrock. His ground skills and stamina will have to be tested further.

Gee, I wonder if Shamrock will even be in shape. Guess if Kimbo loses that will be his excuse...well he's a true mixed martial artist even though Shamrock is what 44. If Kimbo wins it will be the same reason...he beat a legitimate mixed martial artist even though he's 44 and probably hasn't been training seriously in awhile. Yawn. Who cares.

david, kimbo would leave the octagon on a stretcher if he fought brock lesnar, brock has already proven he can dominate world class opponents while kimbo has proven he can barely get by a nobody. maybe in a year or 2 this might be reasonable.

This is another joke of an opponent for an overrated "great fighter". They are piling these dummies in front. Brock Lesnar fought Frank Mir, a very formidable opponent for his UFC debut. Frank Mir is no dummy that's for sure. He is an excellent technical fighter, and beat Lesnar, regardless of him getting in trouble in the beginning. I could name about 95% of other fighters that would have folded and continued getting pummled by Lesnar without hanging in there and ceasing a technical opportunity like Frank Mir did.

Well... Brock is in UFC... kinda is a problem...
But I WAS a Kimbo fan... when he used to kill people in their own backyards for money... kinda cool... But now I'm not so sure about the guy... besides, i almost threw up when he busted that guys ear last time... maaan... nasty! haha
I hope Shamrock does well though

shamrock is a legend I hope he wins, kimbo has shown he has good power punches but its not like he is the only one that can hit hard, and shamrock has fought plenty hard hitters also kimbo is one dimensional he can't take a seasoned fighter as shamrock, he might be old but getting choked out by a 40 something guy is the same thing as getting choked out by a 21 year old

If Kimbo does beat Shamrock, it can give him some sort of valid credibility. With a Shamrock win, everyone will jump on the bandwagon and say that Kimbo was a joke. I really do believe that Kimbo can be a good MMA fighter, he just needs the experience and time. I can say without any hesitation that in 2 to 3 years, Kimbo could be a major contender. But right now? He's too green. Let's give the man some time. I mean, everyone was hating on Lesnar when he entered the UFC, then he got furthered hated on for the loss against Mir, and he was hated EVEN MORE when he clearly defeated Heath Herring. Everyone seems to focus too much on what made someone famous or whatnot, and it takes away the effort that that fighter is trying to show to the fans. Lesnar will show withing 2 years that he will be the UFC heavyweight champion. So let's hope that in those 2 to 3 years, Kimbo will prove how deserving he is of real MMA recognition...

I agree. Kimbo & Brock have basically the same skills. They even themselves out...Brock the wrestler, Kimbo the puncher. Would be an interesting match!

shamrock v. slice 5 - 10 years ago would've been worth watching, but if i remember correctly hasn't shamrock lost his last 3 or 4 fights? slice is a wwe or wwf (whatever wrestlers call themselfs) gimmic, he's a beast in stand up but just like mike tyson if it goes more than 2 rounds he's gassed. why not do a mike tyson v. slice fight, there about the same style; both brawlers. slice was lucky against his last foe and survived via his wiskers that the ref didn't stop the fight. as with anderson silva there's no good match ups - at least he's destroyed all comers,

At least Ken will do everything he can to beat Kimbo. Did you guys see Thompsons pathetic attempts at what he calls a punch while he had Kimbo pinned to the mat in against the cage? I hate to say it but it looked to me as if Thompson was holding back all of his power.
