During the post-UFC 91 press conference, Dana White hinted that Demian Maia might coach the next season of the Ultimate Fighter, which will feature fighters from the U.S. and the U.K. You read that right. Demian Maia.

Don't get me wrong. Maia is a fantastic fighter and will have a prolific career in the UFC. His jiu-jitsu is at a level rarely seen in the Octagon, and his potential to grow as a fighter is unlimited. I didn't expect him to win on Saturday, and he easily proved me wrong. I can't wait to see what he does next, because it will be exciting.

However, Maia has only fought four UFC matches. Yes, he has won all four in breathtaking fashion, but he is still not a well-rounded fighter. His stand up needs a ton of work. How is he going to teach the next generation fighters when he doesn't know how to do it himself?

The TUF coaches in the past have been champions and legends. Starting with Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell and leading us to the current season with interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former champion Frank Mir, one of the draws of the show was watching great fighters impart their wisdom and experience to a younger, up-and-coming crop of fighters.

There were rumors floating around that the U.S. coaching job was going to Dan Henderson, and then to Rich Franklin, but both have passed on the offer. Perhaps Maia will be offered the coaching job not because of his credentials, but because the UFC is running out of prospects.

What was Shamrock the champion of??? oh yea nothing. And don't even kid yourself that he was a legend, he was a joke. Maggie, you have no business blogging about MMA. After UFC 91, it has proven that you know crap about MMA. Go blog about Chicago some more. I laugh when your blogs come up cuz you are a clown.

if the next TUF is supposed to be USA vs UK, then shouldn't the other coach be, oh, i dunno, american??? they're looking at bisping for the UK coach, which makes sense. and maia for the US coach? that's ridiculous. this is only being kicked around because maia mentioned that he'd like to fight bisping.
maia is kinda hot though, so i wouldn't mind looking at him for a season. and let's just make it extra clear that i have nothing against maia, or any other non-american fighter. but let's keep with the theme of the show, people.
and boys, back off of maggie. her blogs are nowhere near as bad as those written by some other people. it's nice to have a female voice around here. and besides, boys just can't handle girls who are smarter than them. :P

Maggie, I'd like to point out that Big Nog's stand-up isn't too exceptional either. Granted, he is the interim champion, but look at how many of his fights have ended by submission.
My only concern with Maia as a coach would be personality. That is to say: would he be able to help sell a show? (Especially given that not many casual MMA fans know of him.)

MAIA is a beast and i would like 2 see him as a coach
there doesnt always have to be a "legend" or former champ
regardless Maia will have more octagon expierience then the contestants
and bisping? what has he really done?
i think that would be a good match-up, winner facing Silva
hopefully it would be Maia, people hate on his striking
but his bjj is incredible and he imposes his own will in matches
he uses his style and their is nothin the opponent can do about it
u gotta respect that, and i think he would pose a legitimate threat against Silva
not standing, cuz he wouldnt go there, but on the ground, cuz his bjj is better than silvas

That's a good point. If Bisping is indeed the head coach of Team UK, he doesn't fall in the champion/legend category either. Will you guys and gals watch a show headlined by Bisping and Maia?

I knew Leben would lose to Bisping. Maia is different, he would be a more dangerous opponent for White's UK superstar...

I'd watch Maia/Bisping as a free fight, or undercard main event; wouldn't buy the ppv just for it though.

Rumor has it that Elmo and Grover will be the coaches in season 11. Taking it old school all the way down to Sesame Street. Fighters will have to eat at Mr. Hooper's shop. Maria and Gordon will be taping in corners. Oscar and Big Bird will be commentating. Show is becoming a joke.

First of all, Shamrock IS a legend, there's no way to deny that a UFC Hall-of-Famer is a legend. Well, unless you are a moron. Then you can deny it all you want.
Second of all, Ican is right. TUF sucks.

Seriously I GOT IT....The UFC could do like this search with the TapOut crew.. They would go around to all the Max security prisons around the Nation and find the best inmate to fight the HW champ at that time.. NO really this would work....got a touch of Tuff, the biggest looser, American Idol, appeal..
