Cagewriter - UFC

If you thought Dana White was livid after Anderson Silva's fight at UFC 90, wait until you hear what he said after Silva's lackluster win over Thales Leites last night in Montreal. Silva shuffled, gestured and danced his way to an easy win but by the middle of the fight the boos rained down from the crowd of 21,000-plus along with several profane chants. White has always been quick to speak his mind, good or bad, and Cage Writer got him when he blood was still boiling:

"Anderson Silva is the most talented fighter in the world when he lets his hands and feet and knees and elbows go and he didn't none of it tonight," said White during the ESPNRadio1100 postfight show. "After being in this business for almost 10 years now, I've never been embarrassed of a UFC fight like I was in the main event tonight."

White was clueless in trying to explain what is going through Silva's mind:

"I'm trying to wrap brain around this thing and figure this out, I just cannot."

White said it got so bad in the middle of the fight he wanted to be anywhere but cageside in the midst of 21,000 angry fans"

"I was seriously sitting in my seat going, 'No, no this is not happening again.' I swear to god I wanted to leave tonight."

Watch an angry White with Cage Writer (0:15 mark):

Silva angered many fans and White back in October when he refused to engage against Patrick Cote. Cote eventually suffered a fluke knee injury giving the win to Silva in the third round. In many ways, this showing was worse because it lasted a painful 25 minutes.

White said he was going to speak with Silva and his manager Ed Soares right after the press conference to figure out what was going through his middleweight champion's mind.

Dana Whites comments show why MMA is not a real sport. Competition for hundreds of years has been about winning and strategy..Silvia didn’t put on a performance but won the fight...his opponent ...being unknown and the challenger used his own strategy to try and win but it didn’t work....but for him...that type of strategy will not get him far in his own sport. Yet Dana White wants money, blood and gore which is what the fans want to see ....and that’s cool....but don’t try and call it a sport then bash those guys in the ring about not making him enough money for the next fight which is what he’s worried about. People will flock to this sport if they love it and that will not change but for Dana White(tough girls name) he is trying to promote bloodshed rather than competition.....This is not a flower pot thing competition but if you want to promote Death and Blood then he should promote prison fights and gang wars...if you want to promote competition....the fight....the will to take your body and your opponent to the limit than that’s what sports are really about................Not about him being pissy in possibly not making enough money for HIS pockets in the next fight.

He is considered the PFP best in MMA and he fights in the UFC, yet he gets far less per fight than Liddell or Couture. It is not equitable in relation to his talents. I dont blame him for not wanting to get dirty. It is called karma Dana. You said you would take everything they do in boxing and throw it out the window. What no one anticipated was you would actually be worse and more cheap than either Arum or King.

Dana is just pissed because the UFC is losing its drawing power, and he was hoping to put it on Silva's shoulders. Liddell done, Couture probably done, GSP now looked at as a fishy fighter, Penn whining girl, Lesnar isn't going to hold up against hungry talented young guys. He is screwed as far as PPV draws go until some of the newer guys build up their records and put on some good fights. Silva was boring, but Leites didn't want to fight, can't blame Silva for not wanting to lose his title by getting frustrated and falling into a submission.

First, in Silva's Defense...it takes TWO to fight. Silva did what he was trained to do..stay on his feet, strike when the shot is available and play defense. It was Leites who did not come to fight and kept "floppong". I have been in the ring before and sometimes you face people that do not want to fight. There is nothing you can do about it. How can Silva finish him if he throws himself down. When they were on the ground, Silva proved he was the better BJJ blackbelt by making it back up to his feet.
As for DANA WHITE, he is the biggest baby of them all. How can you blame Silva for his performance. Is this a competition? A fight between two warriors trying to show who can overcome the others MMA skills? Or is this a fixed show and technique doesn't matter...only drama? Might as well call it WWE. Which brings me to my next point....Brock Lesner. He did not fight his way to the top like Evans, Franklin, Cotoure, Hughes, and other great Champs. He came in, lost his second fight and then got a title fight. Why hasn't Chek Congo gotten a shot at the title? He has whipped the last 6 in a row....... This UFC crap is turning into B.S. drama when it should have been left alone. Let them fight. True MMA fans will understand that a true fight may not end in a knock out or kick to the head. If you do not recognize this....rent UFC 1-10 and learn the true sport...they use to fight for 30 minutes!!!!!! Just to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't understand why Silva's taking heat for this fight. it doesn't make any sense for him to give up his own strategy just because his opponent wouldn't bang with him. Entertaining the crowds is management's job--the fighters are just supposed to win. That's what makes MMA a legitimate sport! If he needs tougher opponents pay him more and have him fight at 205--don't punish him for being better than everyone else in his weight class.

As usual, Dana can"t allow anyone to be more of a draw than himself. He should take note from the other commissioners and realize that its' the fighters that we pay to see not some "wannabe" who would get his butt kicked by Danny Bonaduce or even Dustin Diamond for that matter. Sad really, watching his ego screw up a solid promotion. He should apologize to Silva for giving him a turtle to fight and a nobody the last two times out. His poor promotion skills are beginning to show just when the UFC is making some serious headway. I love his comments about how guys are "p******" on TUF but he has never showed anyone that he has any credentials to define if a guy is a p**** or not other than his big mouth---which if I am not mistaken defines a p****.

Amen Realmma.Silva is still a sick fighter when he has to be.You have to BEAT the champ to be the champ. It was boring but when you have a guy thats not willing to try and dethrone you then why fall into a trap, that'd be stupid.if he wanted it on the ground,he should have taken silva with him instead of fallin on his back like a 2 dollar W-H-O-R-E!!!Silva fights best when he has a guy pressin him.It was a crap matchup with a hack!

Silva could have finished Leites at any time. This was a very peculiar performance. What was some of that stuff he was doing...the herky jerky soccer kick stuff. Very odd. Just go in throw some combinations and knock Thales out. Where was the Thai clinch and the legendary knees. I can't blame Dana's reaction. You are paid to fight and knock people out. Ya think Fedor would ever dream of showboating and dicking around the way Silva did. Silva needs to get his head out of his ass. So Leites didn't deserve a title shot so what. If they put unworthy opponents in front of you then just knock then the f&^k out and say next.

i can't blame silva for this fight, leites was total garbage. if i were silva, i'd have done the same damn thing. every time silva got a rhythm going, leites flopped to his back and sat there, waiting for silva to come down to him. since there are rules against pounding a guy when he's down on his back, there was nothing silva could do. leites is a punk, who clearly did not deserve a title shot, and after this fiasco, doesn't even deserve a shot in the big leagues. i have never seen anything more pathetic than his end of the fight. lay off of silva for not breaking the rules and not putting himself into a stupid risk.

I just wanted to remind Dana that Silva is the champ and the challenger should be responsible for taking the fight to the champ after all he is the challenger. Quit putting guys in front of Silva who don't really want to fight him. The boring fight scenerio will be over.

White is the one who has to have his face and name on everything ,he cant or wont get out of his own way. He wants all the credit so he should also get all the blame..The UFC needs to separate much of White's power and distribute it out to better business people with less ego and better fighter and public relations... so on and so on..... things will only get worse untill change comes...wait and see..

this is why Anderson "the dancing spider" Silva is NOT p4p #1. he hasnt been able to finish guys that everyone says had no right to even be in the ring. he has only fought 1 real challenger (Hendo and i would love to see them fight again too.even at 205) he dances and showboats instead of just ending the fight like a real champion would, and he has made a new way of greasing yourself shown. just rub the substance that the guy outside the ring puts on your face before you enter, onto your chest and shoulders with your own hands after you enter the ring. very smart. pay attention to that GSP!! until he fights some better competition and actually fights he should drop on the p4p polls. GSP(greased or ungreased) atleast comes to fight and does just that.
Fedor #1 GSP #2 Dancerson silva #3 and falling.

The UFC is in for some challenging times. Some bad PPV's, Liddell a shell of what he used to be, Couture as well. The show TUF is growing tiresome. This 'sport' is going to flame out and always be a 'niche' option just as I always thought it would. The more guys get savvy, the more this sport becomes a chess match of guys trying to employ their given discipline. Silva wanted to strike, Leites wanted a Jitz match. Tough Man competitions were more exciting. Stick a fork in Dana. He is after all, a boxing reject. Let Silva go and get his a$$ kicked by Roy Jones. He wants the big payday that it would bring.. After his last two fights, I think I would rather watch that. And hardcores, dont tell me he was fighting smart or that Leites didn't want to exchange. Silva had his chances. If he is the PFP, he could of found a way in 25 minutes to take Leites out or at least hurt him.. Dana is a quack. I knew him back in the boxing days of his life. He was a total joke. Still is..

Say what you want about Silva, but I think his actions send a message. #1 - I fight for honor and challenge, #2 I fight to defend myself as needed, and #3 If someone is not a threat to me, I will fight them as need to get a win while keeping myself out of trouble. Bottom Line - Leites was never a threat and never deserved to be knocked out. Silva cruised in control the whole way, and Leites didn't really want to fight.
