We keep hearing over and over again that the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world Anderson Silva is easy to beat. Wrestlers to a man say take the vicious striker to the ground and pound him out. Dan Henderson had success for a round before making a mistake in the second round against "The Spider". Chael Sonnen may be the next wrestler to show how "easy" it is to beat Silva or at least he wants to be.

Sonnen is moving over from World Extreme Cagefighting where he was technically the 185-pound champ after a win over Paulo Filho. He had a rough go of it his last time in the UFC going 1-2 but that was fighting at 205 lbs. against Babalu and Trevor Prangley and on short notice at 185 against Jeremy Horn. He's regained his confidence outside the organization fighting at middleweight and was talking a big game recently with ProMMA's Larry Pepe:

"The second Anderson Silva moves a fist in my direction, lifts of foot, moves a knee, flinches an elbow I will change elevation and blast a double so hard I'll put him straight through the fence if it's not reinforced."

Click below to listen to Sonnen talk Silva (ProMMA Radio w/Larry Pepe):

Sonnen goes on to explain that he'll pound Silva on the ground for 25 minutes or until he wants to bail from the fight. Where does this confidence from? Sonnen said he's seen his mentor Randy Couture do it so many times against some of the world's best strikers. Click here to hear the longest interview in the history of MMA but it's all worth a listen. It's proof that even if Sonnen is destroyed by Silva on fight night, he'll do a helluva selling the promotion. He also spends a lot of time during the interview talking about overcoming his mental blocks. He also says 90% of fighters have no intent of being a champion.

Those words even against " The Spider" I don't know lets just hope you can walk the walk and bring your A game cause he's for real and when you tap out get KO'ed you best have an explanation for your smack talk beside a "I have been fighting off an injury" talk.

confidence is one thing; but there's a big diff. between confidence and arrogance. Silva is confident; Sonnen sounds arrogant. Personally, I'm a former all-state wrestler and a 1st degree blk. belt in t.k.d.; and I'm not looking for a fight with Anderson Silva... much less saying I'll "put him through the cage if it's not reinforced"- that's arrogant. Can't wait to see Silva KO or sub this jerk...

He's definitely improved his game, but i think there's a whole host of UFC middleweights who could still beat Chonnen, so perhaps he should try to win a few there before he makes a plea for his "deserved shot."

Why does Cofield call Silva the #2 pfp fighter? Has he become another Fedor cake eater or is he just not accurate in his facts, which he should be before posting a blog!! Personally I think Silva is #3 behind GSP and Penn!!

I'm not downplaying Sonnen's wrestling ability at all. But when, in the history of mma, has anyone EVER put anyone through the cage with a takedown? Much less Anderson Silva? And what's with that comment about 90% of fighters having no intention of being champion? There are prob. a few here and there who are just in it for the money, cuz it's beats the hell outta what they'd be making at McDonald's (Kimbo); but for the most part, why else would u be a pro athlete if u had no intention of becoming the best? He kinda sounds like an ass to me...

I love how Cofield stirs up trouble by calling Fedor #1 and Silva #2. He knows people are going to complain about it. He doesn't have to post any ranking of the fighter at all, he just knows it will get him more traffic on his blog. Kudos Cofield!

Hey, Kevin, but it works for him. I honestly don't mind if someone says the P4P #1 fighter is Anderson, Fedor, GSP or BJ. Even Miguel. But any other choice is plain dumb.

Shonnen...Whoo..Are you kidding me??? I thought the UFC would have learned better from that Cote fight this one will be pathetic, because the Arachnid will destroy him faster then he did Leban..OH God, I hope he's got a girl to run errands for him for about three months he's gonna need it...

I found the problem. "Sonnen said he's seen his mentor Randy Couture do it so many times against some of the world's best strikers". Key word being "strikers". Aside from me not remembering Couture even fight the "best" strikers Sonnen is sadly mistaked to think Anderson is simply a striker.
Sonnen will probably get at least a takedown but he's bot going to be able to finish him. It's also a title fight so this mean Sonnen will need at the very least 1 takedown in each round to not only win a decision but to also avoid being KOed.
Because of Sonnen's standup I just can't forsee him winning this fight and every time I play it in my head it ends with Anderson's precision.

Sonnen must have gained some false confidence with his "win" over paulo.............maybe he just wants to establish himself as a contender to silva but calling him out will just seal his fate. bad move! whats odd is that when he beat bryan baker he was very humble and complemented his foe at every opportunity. this trash talk seems to be a 180 from how he presented himself on that night.
haha.......watch the first ufc-tiny yarbourough( may have gotten the spelling wrong) vs kieth hackney. kieth hit the door hard enough that it swung open and he fell out of the cage. thats the only time i can remember that someone got pushed out of the cage. "tiny was around 620 lbs at the time............but still had his a$$ handed to him !
Whats up usual suspects? call to arms.....boxy55 is back! shout out to haha ,chano ,darkness and ican2! good posts dudes! and yeah...........even enjoying nutcracker too! lol.....perfect name for the xmas season!

what an idiot sonnen has become...maybe he's just trying to hype himself up for his re-entrance in the ufc, but really why the hell would he do that especially since he's already been booted out once? everybody has seen his poor sub defense and weak standup (yeah it's weak when he's not fighting someone with NO standup....i.e. the drugged up version of filho). and even in their rematch he hardly engaged at all and still almost got subbed again on the same arm that he didn't tap for the first time.....what an ass clown. he'll never even get the chance to fight silva because someone like marquardt will end up PLOWING through his weakness.

Sonnen is starting to believe his own hype. Trying to re-invent himself as he moves over. He doesn't have the stand up to hang with Silva helping keep enough distance to try his self-proclaimed "change in elevation." Nor is he slick enough (unlike Maia) not to get hit with a solid strike. I just don't see him posing a threat to Silva like Kang or Maia.

screw kang, he'll get ko'd. nuff said
but beardown, you mentioned that sonnen doesn't have the skills to avoid the strikes (like maia does) and come through with a takedown....but really, even if he did get a takedown or two what the hell is he gonna do with it? he's got no submissions, probably a crappy d'arce choke or rnc like most wrestlers but i'm pretty sure he's under the impression he's gonna ground and pound him after they are placed back inside the cage from the takedown heard 'round the world....and do you really think anderson is gonna get gnp'd? he's pretty good at wrist control, eliminating distance and just overall avoiding damage (hendo) from the bottom when he ends up there. when anderson silva loses, it'll most likely be by submission or one punch KO, and we all know chael won't pull off either. i've lost all respect for sonnen, and that's ashame because i always liked his class in the WEC. Now I just can't wait to see him and that other douche Munoz get steamrolled by some worthy comp.

Steven W, "Screw Kang, he'll get ko'd nuff said"? Nuff said why, because you said it? Lol, Screw you, Kang is phenomenal and after he beats people senseless in the UFC you will on the bandwagon like you never missed a beat.
It's funny how you then go on to say "when Anderson Silva loses, it will most likely be by Sub or 1 punch KO". First of all, Kang is great at both and second of all, 1 punch KO? Why exactly could someone not hurt Anderson with a punch and finish him with a TKO stoppage?
You know chit about Dennis Kang and you buy into the Anderson hype WAY too much. His best UFC win is over a 38 year old Hendo. If he beat Hendo 5 years ago when Hendo was still in his prime then it would be a lot more impresive. It's difficult to proclaim someone "superman" when that person lost a round to a dehydrated Travis Lutter.

Steven W..... I'm going to try and make sense out of your rant and say that you agree with me 50%. I do think you are way off on the Kang comment though. There is a reason that they signed him and that is to give Silva a run for his money.
