Mark Coleman knows what Chuck Liddell is feeling right now. Liddell, 40, suffered his third loss in four fights. His boss retired him minutes after the loss to Shogun Rua at UFC 97 and most of the media and fans have done the same. Just three months earlier, Coleman, 45, looked tired and past his prime in his loss to Rua. In his case, he actually had to appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission to state his case for a license and convince the Keith Kizer and Co. that he deserved another shot. The NSAC agreed and he's fighting in seven weeks at UFC 100 against Stephan Bonnar.

Coleman says Liddell is a different story because of his fighting style:

"I may be older but I'm very healthy. I haven't taken very many shots to the head at all. I think it's a different situation, Chuck, he's been brawling for a long time. I would never say quit to him but at least he's in a financial position to make that choice."

Watch Coleman talk about his re-dedication to training for what he says could be his last chance:

Coleman worries that if Liddell fights on and views it as a one-time deal he's putting himself in a dangerous position:

"If he's not going to commit himself to fighting for an extended period, that's one thing that's hard to do. Once you become the become the champion and he's a celebrity and a star, it's hard to get re-focused."

As far as Coleman's gas tank appearing to be on empty against Rua, the former Ohio State wrestler says he implemented the wrong gameplan:

"I told people I was going to stand up with this guy and everybody said I was full of shit. Unfortunately my instincts took over, I took him down early and I hadn't done enough wrestling myself. I feel like I wore him out wrestling but at the same time I wore myself out early."

Cagewriter has talked to several wrestlers in MMA who all said Coleman did deserve from credit for tiring Rua. Coleman said the weight cut was difficult before UFC 93 and this time will be different. It should be easier. He's training at Xtreme Couture with Shawn Tompkins and the new Tapout Training Center in Las Vegas.

Coleman was a little miffed at one critic back around UFC 93. After Coleman had complained about his finances and funding a training camp before the Rua fight, Kim Couture thought that was odd excuse. Coleman said she should mind her own business (4:58 mark). Those comments should make for interesting times with Coleman training at Xtreme Couture and Kim still working at the gym as well.

No one can take a beating like Coleman. That would be a great fight for Liddell. Coleman could just stand there not moving his head with his chin out and let Chuck swing for the fences like he does in all of his fights. Dana could care less about the age and health of Coleman. The UFC could kill 2 birds with one stone. Chuck could retire with a much-needed knockout win and Coleman could just retire.

Coleman was a good fighter. His first fight with rua was good but come on -- No one over 40 is dominant. Couture is a still a good fighter but if you but couture up against either guy from this weekends fight machida or evans they would destroy him into the the next galaxy.
Plus with all that muscle coleman would gas easier than somone that a bit a fat. Look at Fedor -- sure he is a gorilla but he has a gut. Does he gas no way. By having that fat layer the oxygen can travel through his body better. The only person I have seen that has no body fat that does not get tired is miguel torres. Forrest griffin is lean but still has more fat than coleman so he does not count.
Coleman needs to retire but should do ala bedard from WEC win then retire. The pic of coleman bloody and trying to hug his daughters is scary.
I would like to see coleman fight militech or couture.
    But

I don't know post 2, I think Coleman's fight against Bonner is a loser goes home situation. Bonnar has been injury prone and erratic since TUF, and may not be a good fit anymore. Coleman's problems are more obvious, but he was on ice for quite a while before dropping a weight class to fight Rua. If Randy loses to Nog, I think a fight with Coleman is an obvious choice, although it would be awkward if Coleman is training at Xtreme Couture.

I dont think Kim Couture is training at Xtreme Couture anymore
since she is getting "divorced" and used that to call off her match with miesha tate
i think i heard shawn thompkins was taking over her duties as day to day operator of gym
    could be wrong

I think Dana will retire Coleman too if he doesn't get past Bonnar, and as erratic as Stephan has been I wonder how this will turn out, and he looked gassed in his last bout too, taking a pounding being thrown around like he was.
Coleman will eventually have to retire to and this may expidite that. I don't think by his words he will be hanging too close to where Kim is at.

southern ole miss, you're right no one can take a beating like coleman...he's got that down to a science.
and LOL at post 2 who thinks fat people have better cardio. hahahaha, i know what you're saying in theory my friend...but let's be serious ok? ever heard of gsp? or almost any 155lb or smaller fighter? now how does roy nelson pair up with those guys in the cardio department?
i agree that the bonnar/coleman fight is a loser goes home matchup....especially after bonnar got totally tossed around by jon jones. talk about someone to keep an eye on. coleman i think is in the same boat, i just haven't been able to like him much since the 2000 pride gp aftermath. seems like he thinks that was it for him and he never had to improve upon that and the world owed him something for that opportunistic series of wins he haphazardly put together. coleman just started kinda training at xtreme, i'm sure randy trumps him should they be scheduled to fight.
speaking of kim, it's a good thing she called off that fight with tate because after watching her fight sarah kaufmann, even though she lost i'm pretty positive it would have ended badly for little kimmy much like when she got her face broken.

One thing I am sad about is that people are so fast to jump on Coleman in losses but not in victory. The man beat a much younger man in Bonnar. The fight didn't need to happen, it made no sense but let's be honest. Bonnar should have beaten him regardless of the come up in weight. However, it would be nice to see a feature story on Mark Coleman seeing that he is one of the pioneers of this sport. He may have made mistakes along the way with the Hammer House/Chute Boxe Incident but all that aside he does deserve some media coverage for his win. I can't find any story on him beating Bonnar. It is like its a media shutout after he won. I don't think Mark will ever see this comment but Mark, keep on doing your best. I have trained MMA before and I am telling you now its NOT as easy as it might look and people bag on Mark about his Cardio and all that but let you get in there and try it. Then you tell me how easy it is. Mark may not be champion ever again but he still showed that he has something left in the tank and less than 5 years ago we were screaming about Bonnar and Forrest. Show some respect for the pioneers. I think its BIG news that Mark Coleman won and I for one am very happy for him and if I ever was lucky enough I would enjoy meeting the man to shake his hand and tell him I am happy for his win. Please somebody do a story respecting Mark Coleman. Give him a moment to know that he is appreciated for what he has done. If it were you, and you had given your life to this sport would you not want somebody caring about your work? Somebody needs to give a feel -good article to Coleman. I for one think it sends out a message to a lot of over 40 types that the party is surely not over once you reach 40. Say what you want but I bet Coleman is still in better shape than a lot of guys younger than him. I mean hey, Stephan Bonnar couldn't beat him and I know Bonnar would not just give up against this guy. Congrats Mark, enjoy the victory!
