Cagewriter - UFC

In a video that has been making the rounds today, things got a little feisty between the Brigham Young and New Mexico women's soccer teams. And when I say a little feisty, I mean downright dirty. They knocked each other down, threw sucker punches and at one point used a ponytail to get their opponent down on the ground.

The problem here is not the game. I'd like to see some more sportsmanship between these two teams, but the problem is that at the beginning of the highlight, ESPN equates the dirty play to MMA. Why is that necessary? Nothing about the cheap, dirty moves these women were pulling on each other had anything to do with what is done in a cage. Especially since ESPN had actually been giving this week's Strikeforce card good coverage, they should know better. For that silliness, ESPN wins the Cagewriter Facepalm of the Week.

Update: Apparently, more silly MMA references were made during "Around the Horn." That makes ESPN even more deserving of this award.

    sigh
You are too much of a wimp to be an MMA fan. Announcers have been doing the same thing in all sports for years. When a boxer tackles another they compare it to wrestling. So what if this was compared to MMA? What does it say about you? I don't see any wrestling fans crying on blogs about that comparison.... but yet... here you are.
    lmao
I really hate you, I only come here because it's fun to point out all the crap that comes out of a "mma blog editor"
Just FYI, every post you and the other "blogger" Maggie make ends up on a Facepalm from most MMA fans. They come here because everyone loves to slow down to witness an accident.

BYU eh? Interesting what "they" say you should do in order to be chosen for Heaven's Elite.

its to bad we cant just get rid of media coverage altogether. you know interviews and stuff... and just air the actual event thats being covered and not have to listen to douchebags from 50 different sources push theyre retarded views on everyone. news coverage is the root of all evil.

Maggie: Tough week to pick a facepalm recipient since the week was mostly idiot-free, but I think that's as good as it's going to get. I believe it was Scott Van Pelt who made the comment...and I think the SportsCenter guys write their own stuff without much oversight. So...if you want...you can limit this facepalm to SVP. You could have also nailed Sonnen for his "pick" for the Fedor-Rogers fight.
Luis: You make almost no sense. But it's cool that you "hate" someone you've never met solely based on what you think of their writing. And who's this "other 'blogger' Maggie?" Last I checked, Maggie Hendricks wrote this and is the only Maggie on Cagewriter.
Gaborik: BYU players were actually on the receiving end of the beating. But maybe I'm missing your point.
Ryan: Do the "50 different sources" include you? Or do you make it 51?

Attempting express a facepalm about anything without an actual facepalm picture feels like disingenuous bandwagon jumping

csmillar: Maggie's been very busy these past couple days getting interviews and attending pressers...and she's done an awfully good job. We should be so lucky that she even posted a facepalm article this week.

But what about the video though? The girl could get arrested for some of the $hit she pulled out there (if it were not on an athletics field). I wonder if her school or the NCAA will take any action?

What do "they" say you have to do to be one of heavens' elite? It looked like the BYU girls were playing nice to me. Like the reference to Chasing Amy there Steve W.

Actually, the girl that got ponytail yanked fouled the other girl previous. I know one video doesn't tell the story... the blonde was definitely a bruiser but the girl who got ponytail yanked wasn't blameless.

It's John Anderson not SVP. He wasn't calling MMA dirty, and if you have more than two brain cells, you'd know that. He was commenting on the punches and near armbar that chick was throwing out there, hence the fighting reference.
