Is there a story behind this Ken Shamrock cut? Rumors are swirling that Shamrock was asking for more money. One blogger Ariel Helwani of MMARated.com, who was in attendance, doesn't believe the cut story and says that EliteXC officials are angry with Shamrock:

Everyone has told me that he did sustain a cut. Well, I simply have a hard time swallowing that pill. Regardless, I wouldn't expect to see Shamrock fighting for EliteXC for a long time - if ever again - as there seemed to be some serious resentment towards him after the show.

Shamrock seemed pretty heart broken on the CBS broadcast during his interview with Gus Johnson. Was he acting? Is it actually possible that the guy cut himself to get out of the fight? It seems assanine to even suggest it.

Helwani pounds away at Shamrock saying EliteXC should dump him:

Let it die because no one cares about the older Shamrock anymore. From his behavior during last month's conference call to yesterday's weigh-ins, the former self-proclaimed "world's most dangerous man" has essentially embarrassed himself one more time.

Frank Shamrock ripped the hell out of Ken as well to start the broadcast:

"What is he doing at this stage, right before his fight? What is he doing training this hard? What is he doing warming up this hard? What is he doing getting cut, disappointing the Shamrock family and putting our legacy at jeopardy."

Wow! Where is the sympathy? I guess I'm naive for believing that the guy suffered a fluke cut and got screwed out of a big fight.

Shamrock was paid by the UFC to quit the fight. He did that to himself. He knew that he is too old to fight. And Dana White knows that Elite XC would be forced to pit Kimbo against a former Ultimate Fighter contestant and that's what happened. Kimbo was no match against a professional MMA fighter and it made Dana White and UFC looked good.

Dana White said before that Kimbo wouldn't even win the Ultimate Fighter and he's been proven now.

Taking a dive in the WWE, and taking a dive in MMA are two completely different things. In my opinion, in the end Shamrock's pride didn't allow him to take a dive against a clearly inferior opponent, and he didn't want to allow his once great name to do nothing more than pad Slice's record, and that is why he backed out.
I hope and pray that the Ken Shamrock name isn't used again for nothing more than marquee value. He deserves a lot better than that.

Of course it's possible he cut himself. He did act in the WWE afterall. Some fighters are renowned for their propensity to cut and bleed during their fights, That's what makes their fights so exciting. They know that they need to stop the other guy before they get opened up.
Vito Antuofermo was a classic example. You knew that he was going to bleed, it was just a matter of whether he got to the other guy out before he got sliced open.
From the small footage that I saw, Shamrock's alleged cut was on the brow and above the eye, and if/when opened, it would have bled into his eye. As we all saw from Elite XC's first CBS broadcast, they did not want to risk public outrage if there was a bloodbath.

However, I am sure that Elite XC would have much preferred a bloodbath as opposed to the death dive that they took when Slice, and their one trick pony got castrated.

Yet another classic example of Cofield showing that he has absolutely no clue ( calling him naive is far too kind ). Why the hell would any fighter be doing any training that would put him at risk in the lead up to a big fight, and in Shamrock's case, a huge, and last pay day?
All athletes " taper " before a big event, including fighters.

I can buy it. Coming from the guy who was overheard after getting smoked by Tito saying how much money they made together. And from the guy who's already taken a dive in EliteXC. Hopefully he did back out, cause now he feels like a serious DUMBF#@K! But who cares, it was funnier watching the guy with pink hair beat the sideshow!!

to even think that shamrock would do that is retarded, whether you like him or hate him, he was the face of all MMA before the UFC became so popular, he was the first that main stream TV ever would talk about, when ABC named him the worlds most dangerous man, plus he's an ego maniac, do you really think he would miss the opportunity to fight kimbo who's got all this hype on him, to get the chance to beat him and rub peoples face in it, Ken would love to do that, its funny how fans when MMA wasn't anything loved ken, when he was in his prime and was destroying people, turn on him now, no wonder MMA isn't taken serious there fans react the same as pro wrestling fans do, no loyalty, only cheer for whose popular now or whose winning

Boxing 'fans' superior to mma 'fans'? Fans are fans, get over yourself. The bs in the 'story' above is merely bait. all Cofield's leads feign 'naiveté' or 'outrage' or any other ruse to get a reaction from the gullible. It's chum in the water to attract 'fish'. the fun is in feeding off the fish that frenzy.

    Cofield,
Does your employer, Yahoo know that one of your sources is merely a fellow blogger? Do you actually know anyone who has been to a fight, let alone ever met one of the fighters that you whack off over, or is all of your information gathered from Google like the rest of us Joe Six-Packs?
ATTN YAHOO, WHY NOT HIRE THE BLOGGER THAT IS COFIELD'S SOURCE? THAT WAY YOU CAN CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN, OR IN THIS CASE, CUT OUT THE KNOW NOTHING WANNABE AND GET YOUR NEWS DIRECTLY.
That explains why your link to the Kobold article always played that annoying interview. You were shamelessly shilling your " source " and fellow blogger, much the same way that you shamelessly shill the Venetian casino!

Agreed with #16. He merely cut and pasted quotes. & sentences were substantiative thought on his behalf. Cofield is a joke. MMAjunkie blog roll had people asking if anyone else saw the reaction of Shaw's face an hour before Cofield posted anything about it. Absolute joke Cofield, you are way too easy to out as a hack writer. And my 2 cents say I'm glad Shamrock got a cut and was unable to fight, that KO was good enough from a "underweight replacement"

I didn't read all the comments but does any one else think kimbo took a fall? I have seen the fight where kimbo yells to the fighter "hit me" and puts his hands behind his back. He then lets the guy punch him 2 or 3 times in the jaw as hard as he can. That guy looked bigger than the no name last night. That did not seem like a knockout punch to me. Maybe im wrong but it seems awful funny how hours before the fight it changes, then kimbo goes down to a love tap. I think that should be a wrap on elite xc. Bring on Fedor and Cotoure

The Shamrocks still win in the end.
This was a ploy by the Shamrocks. They want to fight each other and did not want to risk Ken losing to Kimbo.
As you heard in the beginning of the show, Frank criticized Ken for hurting the Shamrock "Legacy"? This will now become a media hyped argument and they will try and push a PPV on people to them fight. Ken is old and washed up and they knew nobody would watch if he lost to a street fighter, like Kimbo Slice. They are a bunch of morons and just like Elite XC lets burie them all in Miami,

I did seem pretty ironic that Shamrock got cut at the last minute. Come on he is an experianced fighter he out of all people know not to do anything stupid before a fight, including doing heavy warm-up...Ken I cant buy that it was a light warm up because even the most amature fighter knows not to engage into anything potentially dangerous before a fight. I think he was paid off or he was not sure of himself and got intimidated with Kimbo and decided to punk out. At any rate, I am glad he was out of the fight because someone forgot to tell Seth that he was suppose to loose....lol.....Go Seth!!!!! Kimbo see you on the rebound on YOUTUBE fighting street punks were you belong......

could this have been told to Shamrock as well right before the fight and he couldn't go threw with it?

forget about ken. the important thing here is that the fraud Kimblo was exposed. I feel the same way about the UFC's biggest fraud, Brock Losenar. They should have matched those two freaks together. Big Roy got robbed also. are mma refs being trained by the WWE?
