The sucker punches are coming from all directions for UFC President Dana White. And it's not limited to the MMA world. White has gone back and forth with boxing promoter Bob Arum over the years. In the past, White has said he took everything boxing promoters did and threw it out the window. Arum has stated that UFC's monopoly allows for a skewed business model and accused the sports of being rampant with steroid use.

The septegenarian was giddy over the recent Affliction to Vegas news (Oct 11 at the Thomas & Mack) when he sat down with Yahoo! Sports. Arum was stumping for his big boxing match this weekend between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito but couldn't help taking a shot at White:

"Affliction is on the warpath. One of the things they've been successful at, UFC spends a lot on promotion because they don't pay their athletes. Their contracts will be running out and Affliction is going to get all the better fighters. If it's a bet between UFC and Affliction, I'm betting on Affliction...How do you like that Dana!"

The boxing promoter was steaming because White opened the UFC 86 post-fight press conference by cracking on Arum, who had complained that the economy was the reason the Manny Pacquiao fight had fallen way short of a sellout. White said there didn't seem to be a problem with the economy the following week at the same venue when his UFC event sold out.

"There's no problem with the economy when you take half of the tickets, you give them away and you let the commission charge full prices and so you pay your four percent and you can brag you sell it out," said Arum. "That's their business model."

    Go on old school Arum!!!!!
#3 you are right. I like watching MMA but I find Dana White kind of makes himself the story more than the fighters. The UFC also pays rather low purse monies and I find that offensive to the guys putting it on the line. I still cant get over Rampage got only 225k to defend his title on a ppv show.. And Griffin the challenger actually got a slightly larger purse as the challenger??? 225k may seem like a lot, but after paying your manager, taxes, training costs, it doesn't leave much.

You whine about Dana White and you respect Bob Arum's opinion. Yeah, he's a model of integrity and character. He's about one rung higher than Don King on the Scum Bag ladder.

Oh Ron.. Dont be a poor sport. At least Arum pays his fighters. Dana White opened his big mouth again and Arum put his foot back in it.. Did you see what Silva got for fighting Irvin?? What a joke. No wonder he calls out Roy Jones.. He wants to get paid, and Dana White dont pay...

Exactly... boxing is all about the money. What happened to the days where the champ has to fight the number 1 guy and on down the line. It's not about finding out who the best is. In the UFC you have to beat the top contenders before you get a title shot.

    #11 and #12
I agree on that point. It does water down to some degree.. But it is inevitable in a free market system. It may make for some great rivalries, but if Afflction and UFC and others dont 'cross paths' and make super fights between different organizations, you will see it fracture just as boxing did. Having said that, there will always be great fights, as the free market will also make it happen (money) .. #11.. didnt Mosley just fight a tough Cotto a few months ago???

Let's see, a failed boxing promoter in D. White versus one of the best fight promoters of all time in B. Arum. I think that I will take sides with Mr. Arum

Mikey da C Man...... Amen!!! Well Said.. But dont forget, a failed boxer and trainer, and then failed boxing promoter. F D. White. He is no different than any other promoter and actually his purse monies are low in comparison to their ppv sales... He treats his fighters like sh@#$#... Again, why do you think A. Silva was callin out Roy Jones for a boxing match?? Surely he would get embarrassed, but he would do it for a big payday...

Boxing is no where near as popular as it used to me because of Bob Arum and Don King. I'm just wondering if Dana White treats his fighters like crap and doesn't pay them anything why do they still fight for the UFC.

Like nobody on here has failed at anything. Everyone has setbacks and hard times in their lives. The UFC with it's success isn't any different than any other major sport. You will always have athletes and teams/organizations fighting about money. Wait until Affliction has some success and you will start to see the same problems. With that said Bob Arum is still a dirt bag.

That's pretty funny. You should train for a few months and then put your theory to the test. Lesnar was submitted in less than a minute by Mir. You might last aboiut 30 seconds if you ran around the cage. You have no idea of the skill and training it takes. You also can't compare the two sports because they are completely different. If there were no rules who do you think would win.
Everyone has their favorite sport. I like MMA better because I think it's more exciting. I love football but hate baseball. By the way they test for steroids in MMA. If she's positive she'll be suspended. First offense is up to a year. Heynow I was referring to Dana White not Bob Arum.

Oh yeah, Brock Lesnar trained for 3 years with some of the best trainers/coaches in MMA before his first fight. .By the way Lesnar was an All American Wrestler too...he wasn't just "a halfway pumped up athletic guy.". I have an idea...after you train for a couple of months let me know and we'll start you out with a small guy like Faber or BJ Penn...shouldn't be any problem for you..

Dude seriously, stop proof reading and cross checking my posrs. You are starting to worry me with your lack of life. I know my posts cut deep, but get over it and go to the gym or something.. Work on your BJJ or boxing or Yoga or whatever you do..How bout that Margarito.. What a fight... I did wrestle and i appreciate ground game, I just dont like it mixed with boxing.. How many times have we seen fights with a grappler and a striker, each trying to impose their disciplines and you end up with a boring, cluster F@#$... Cote vs. forgot his name, on page/griffin card is a good example... boring... a co main that would put even a die hard fan like you asleep...

Hey, Chuckie go ahead and continue to live your fantasy life through these blogs....for someone that's so evolved and travels the world you spend a lot of time on here. Seriously though try to think of somethinig new or interesting to say. You just keep regurgitating the same thing over and over. Here's a news flash for ya Chuckie...contrary to what you think...no one on here cares about your opinions about boxing or MMA or your travels to Bali. You're right about one thing though...these blogs are a complete waste of my time. Thanks for the advice. Take care Chuckie.

Congrats on your family.. Why would I assume you were a single guy... I think MMA is popular in the middle class to some degree, as is boxing.. But more for exercise than as a career move.. Or at least until it is time to spar, and then they never show up.... That goes for rich, middle and poor actually... peace out Ron...
