The sucker punches are coming from all directions for UFC President Dana White. And it's not limited to the MMA world. White has gone back and forth with boxing promoter Bob Arum over the years. In the past, White has said he took everything boxing promoters did and threw it out the window. Arum has stated that UFC's monopoly allows for a skewed business model and accused the sports of being rampant with steroid use.
The septegenarian was giddy over the recent Affliction to Vegas news (Oct 11 at the Thomas & Mack) when he sat down with Yahoo! Sports. Arum was stumping for his big boxing match this weekend between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito but couldn't help taking a shot at White:
"Affliction is on the warpath. One of the things they've been successful at, UFC spends a lot on promotion because they don't pay their athletes. Their contracts will be running out and Affliction is going to get all the better fighters. If it's a bet between UFC and Affliction, I'm betting on Affliction...How do you like that Dana!"
The boxing promoter was steaming because White opened the UFC 86 post-fight press conference by cracking on Arum, who had complained that the economy was the reason the Manny Pacquiao fight had fallen way short of a sellout. White said there didn't seem to be a problem with the economy the following week at the same venue when his UFC event sold out.
"There's no problem with the economy when you take half of the tickets, you give them away and you let the commission charge full prices and so you pay your four percent and you can brag you sell it out," said Arum. "That's their business model."

#3 you are right. I like watching MMA but I find Dana White kind of makes himself the story more than the fighters. The UFC also pays rather low purse monies and I find that offensive to the guys putting it on the line. I still cant get over Rampage got only 225k to defend his title on a ppv show.. And Griffin the challenger actually got a slightly larger purse as the challenger??? 225k may seem like a lot, but after paying your manager, taxes, training costs, it doesn't leave much.

I agree on that point. It does water down to some degree.. But it is inevitable in a free market system. It may make for some great rivalries, but if Afflction and UFC and others dont 'cross paths' and make super fights between different organizations, you will see it fracture just as boxing did. Having said that, there will always be great fights, as the free market will also make it happen (money) .. #11.. didnt Mosley just fight a tough Cotto a few months ago???

Everyone has their favorite sport. I like MMA better because I think it's more exciting. I love football but hate baseball. By the way they test for steroids in MMA. If she's positive she'll be suspended. First offense is up to a year. Heynow I was referring to Dana White not Bob Arum.
