Earthquakes sign F Weaver
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) —The San Jose Earthquakes on Thursday signed forward Cam Weaver, who spent the past two seasons playing for FK Haugesund of the Norwegian first division.
Terms of the multi-year deal were not disclosed.
Last year, the 6-4, 190-pound Weaver scored 11 goals in all competitions - nine in league play and two in the Norwegian Cup. In his last match in Norway on October 25, the 25-year-old scored twice in a 4-2 win over Sandnes Ulf.
“We have been looking for a target forward, and Cam certainly fills that position with his height and strength,” San Jose general manager John Doyle said. “He had a great year for the (Seattle) Sounders in 2006 and has been productive in Norway. He should be a good addition to our team as we continue to strengthen our attack.”
A Washington native, Weaver began his professional career in 2006 with the Sounders of the United Soccer League’s first division. He was named Rookie of the Year after scoring a league-high 18 goals in 27 games.
