Chivas USA signs French F Merlin

CARSON, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) —Chivas USA on Thursday signed French forward Laurent Merlin. Terms were not disclosed.

A former French Under-19 international, the 22-year-old Merlin joins Chivas USA as a developmental player.

Merlin, who first was identified by the Los Angeles Galaxy during an open tryout in February, has been training with Chivas USA since March 3. Pending approval of his visa, he could be eligible to play Saturday against MLS champion Houston.

Chivas USA opened its season with a 2-0 victory over expansion Toronto FC on Saturday.
