Despite a home run on the first pitch of the game, the Washington baseball team trailed early and fell just short of a comeback victory, losing 8-6 on the road to Utah on Friday afternoon. The Huskies (12-18-1, 5-11 Pac-12) got the scoring going immediately — quite literally, on the first pitch of the ballgame. Junior shortstop Cam Clayton would hit a sacrifice-fly later in the inning, giving Washington an early two-run cushion for starting pitcher, senior Jarred Engman (0-7). Luckily for UW, Engman was able to navigate out of the jam and allowed only one run to score, sending it to the second inning with a lead.
