The Rangers are not going to rush Josh Hamilton back to the majors.

Hamilton, who underwent surgery to strengthen his abdominal wall on June 9, has spent this week on a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Oklahoma City. He had hoped to return to the lineup by Saturday.

It has been pretty clear, however, that his timing has not quite returned and GM Jon Daniels said the team will wait until at least Sunday before activating him. It's possible the club could wait into next week.

Hamilton was hitless in five at-bats Friday as Oklahoma City lost to Iowa, 7-1. In three games for the RedHawks he is 1-for-16 with four strikeouts. He was 1-for-4 in one game for Double-A Frisco before moving on to Oklahoma.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Friday night that the All-Star center fielder will play at least one more rehab game for Triple-A Oklahoma City as he attempts to come back from abdominal surgery. Hamilton was supposed to play the outfield Friday night at Iowa.

The league would not go into details about any borrowing, but said it was assisting Rangers owner Tom Hicks with the sale of the franchise. When the Texas Rangers sent Josh Hamilton to Triple-A Oklahoma City for rehabilitation, they didn't envision their All-Star slugger getting two games' worth of at-bats in one night. That's essentially what Hamilton got Wednesday, when he went 1 for 7 and struck out twice as the designated hitter for the Redhawks in a 1-0 victory over Iowa that went 14 innings.
