Seattle closer David Aardsma is a lot like the rest of the Mariners. He wasn't expected to do a lot this season. Chris Woodward's bases-loaded pop up in the ninth inning dropped behind a partially draw-in infield to score the go-ahead run, lifting Seattle to a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

For most of the year, the Mariners have had to rely on the top half of the lineup to get run production.

But there are some indications that things are perking up a little lower in the order.

Friday's 7-6 11-inning win in Boston saw the Nos. 6-9 spots in the order go 7-for-18 with five runs scored and five driven in. Included were three doubles by catcher Rob Johnson, including the game-winner in the 11th, and a two-run homer by shortstop Ronny Cedeno.

On Thursday in Yankee Stadium, the makeup of spots 6-9 was different, but the production was similar: 6-for-14 with three runs scored and two driven in an 8-4 win over the Yankees.

And on Tuesday in New York, it was more of the same - nine hits in 15 at-bats including three runs scored and three driven...

High Desert's James McOwen has extended his hitting streak to 40 games with a single in the ninth inning of a 6-4 loss at Rancho Cucamonga. McOwen, an outfielder drafted in the sixth round in 2007 out of Florida International, was 0 for 2 with a walk for Seattle's Class-A affiliate Friday night before grounding a single to center with two outs in the ninth.

The Seattle Mariners have activated right-handed reliever Shawn Kelley from the 15-day disabled list and optioned infielder Mike Carp to Triple-A Tacoma. The team said the 25-year-old Kelley would be available for Friday night's series opener against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
