Manny Ramirez's first home run since returning from a 50-game drug suspension wasn't enough to help Los Angeles overcome Everth Cabrera's three RBIs as the San Diego Padres beat the Dodgers 7-4 on Saturday. Ramirez homered in his second game and fifth plate appearance back. It was his seventh homer of the season and 534th of his career, tying Jimmie Foxx for 16th on the all-time list.

San Diego Padres catcher Henry Blanco will be put on the disabled list after straining his right hamstring in Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Blanco pulled up rounding first base after hitting a broken-bat single with two outs in the second inning. He was replaced by pinch-runner Eliezer Alfonzo, who stayed in as catcher.

The thousands of Dodger fans who drove 120 miles south from Los Angeles to witness Manny Ramirez's return Friday night ticked off a lot of Padres partisans—even if the surge produced only the third sellout of the season at Petco Park.

But don't count Tony Gwynn's kid among the upset.

Gwynn has a novel idea for the Padres. Want to have big crowds pulling for the Padres? Win.

"It was no different than any Padres-Dodgers game," said Tony Gwynn. "We like playing in those types of games, but we also like winning those types of games.

"From right field, it sounded like it was 50-50, but the bottom line is when you are not winning ballgames, people aren't going to come out to see you play.

"If we don't like it, then we have to win more ballgames."

Returning from his 50-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy, the Los Angeles slugger barely hit the ball out of the infield in the Dodgers' 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. He did provide a lot of energy to the team with baseball's best record.

You had to see it to bee-lieve it. The Houston Astros -- who once had the "Killer Bs" -- had to wait out a 52-minute bee delay before finishing their 7-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday. The delay, which came with two outs in the top of the ninth, certainly gave a new meaning to getaway day.

Talk about adding a late-inning buzz to a ballgame. Thursday's game between the Houston Astros and San Diego Padres was delayed for 52 minutes in the top of the ninth inning Thursday when a swarm of bees took over part of left field at Petco Park. A beekeeper was called the downtown ballpark and sprayed a chair and a ballgirl's jacket that had attracted the bees.

Gonzalez hit an RBI triple off Mike Hampton with one out in the fourth and slid hard into third base. After Kevin Kouzmanoff struck out, Gonzalez was visited by manager Bud Black and head trainer Todd Hutcheson, who examined Gonzalez's right knee.
