Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton and left fielder Adam Duvall converged on an Anthony Rizzo fly ball in the top of the first inning, leading to disaster. The ball glanced off of Duvall’s glove, hit Hamilton in the face, and rolled away. Hamilton laid on the ground in pain while Duvall tracked the ball down. Two runners scored easily and Rizzo wheeled around third base, scoring easily for an inside-the-park three-run home run. Hamilton exited the game under his own power, replaced by Tyler Holt. The Reds will likely pass along information on Hamilton’s status after the game.
Adam Jones hit a leadoff homer against his hometown team and Hyun Soo Kim and Chris Davis also homered for the Baltimore Orioles, who beat the San Diego Padres 11-7 Tuesday night for their sixth straight victory. The Orioles lead the majors with 123 homers, including 54 in June. Baltimore would have had a fourth homer but center fielder Melvin Upton Jr. leaped and reached over the fence to rob J.J. Hardy of a two-run shot in the second. Upton then doubled off Mark Trumbo at first. Davis passed Hall of Famer Frank Robinson for sole possession of ninth place on the Orioles' all-time home run list with 180. He and Manny Machado had three hits apiece. Kim drove in three runs, adding an RBI double
