That new contract in the works for Brandon Webb might have grown a few digits. Webb became the first pitcher in three years to win his first eight starts, pitching his 13th career complete game to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 on Thursday. Arizona's Conor Jackson celebrated his 27th birthday face-down in the dirt at first base after a nasty eighth-inning collision, then Eric Bruntlett and Chase Utley rallied Philadelphia to victory. Bruntlett doubled in the tying run and Utley's single brought home what turned out to be the game winner as the Diamondbacks twice blew late-inning leads in a 5-4 loss to the Phillies on Wednesday night.
