    Mets win over Phils lowers magic number to one, presented by W.B. Mason

    Jay Bruce homered for the third straight game and drove in three runs as the Mets defeated the Phillies, 5-1, on Friday at Citizens Bank Park to lower their magic number for clinching a Wild Card berth to one. The victory gives the Mets at least a tie for one of the two N.L. Wild Card spots. To read about the potential Wild Card scenarios, click here. In case you missed it… Bruce went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, his 33rd, and a pair of RBI singles to pace the Mets' offense. His game-tying single in the fourth capped a nine-pitch at-bat and his fourth homer in six games increased New York's lead to 3-1 in the seventh.     Freeman's Streak Over, Braves Rally Past Phillies 5-2

    ATLANTA (AP) Freddie Freeman's 30-game hitting streak ended when he struck out in the eighth inning of a tie game Thursday night, but the Atlanta Braves managed to score four runs after that off Philadelphia closer Jeanmar Gomez and beat the Phillies 5-2. Tied 1-1 with rookie Dansby Swanson at first base, Freeman whiffed to end the longest hitting streak in the majors since Dan Uggla (33) in 2011. Matt Kemp followed Freeman with an RBI double off the wall in right field, Jace Peterson added an RBI single and pinch-hitter Emilio Bonafacio drove in two more with a hit off Gomez (3-5).
