The Kansas City Royals won their eighth straight contest Sunday, defeating the Minnesota Twins by a score of 2-1. The Royals were led by 27-year-old lefty Danny Duffy. Duffy turned in a strong start, holding the Twins to just one earned run on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Late last week and over the weekend Darryl Strawberry voiced public concern about former Mets teammate Doc Gooden‘s struggles with addiction, saying he was worried about Gooden, calling him “a complete junkie-addict” and saying that Gooden’s son had reached out to Strawberry for help. Today Gooden himself spoke, calling in to WNYM radio to respond: “The Darryl thing hurt me a lot because I had just though we re-established our relationship. I forgave him for a lot of stuff. I never threw him under the bus, never said anything about him publicly. For him to say that stuff, you have to draw a line somewhere and I guess do a better choice of picking friends.” Gooden went on to say that, while he
On Saturday night, Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis hit a line drive foul ball into the stands at Citizens Bank Park. Sadly, the ball struck a young girl who was injured and taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment. After the game, Galvis pleaded for the Phillies to expand protective netting so that it at least covers the fans behind the dugout. He said, “What year is this? 2016? It’s 2016 and fans keep getting hit by foul balls when you’re supposed to have a net to protect the fans.” He continued, “Safety first. Safety.” Another fan was injured by a foul ball at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday, Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. It was near the same area as Saturday’s incident.
