All around Yankee Stadium, the scenes appeared as surreal as they did familiar, the latest celebration of a World Series championship caught between novelty and nostalgia.

On the postgame podium, Alex Rodriguez was told to take in the moment after his first title, and he did. His eyes grew wide, his mouth wider, his gum nearly falling out along with any further questions about his ability to win a World Series or perform in the postseason.

"I couldn't be more proud of these guys," Rodriguez said. "It's incredible."
