With Nomar Garciaparra's return now anything but urgent, it appears the veteran third baseman won't be ready to come off the 15-day disabled list by the time he becomes eligible on Sunday.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre said Wednesday that Garciaparra, out with a left calf strain, won't be back in time for the three-game series at Milwaukee that runs Tuesday through Thursday. There is no timetable for Garciaparra's return.

Torre had said earlier in the week that Garciaparra probably would need a minor league rehabilitation assignment, and although that figures to be short, there is no timetable for when it might begin.

Garciaparra is on the DL for the second time this season, the fifth time since he joined the Dodgers in 2006 and the 11th time in his career.
