The changes began last winter when franchise fixture Garret Anderson and record-setting closer Francisco Rodriguez left via free agency. This winter has the potential to be just as significant a transition period for the Angels, as the team has seven potential free agents, including key players John Lackey, Chone Figgins and Vladimir Guerrero.

"Every year there's always going to be a little bit of change in any clubhouse. We had our share of it last year," manager Mike Scioscia said. "This is obviously a group that we want to keep together and keep moving forward with. Some of the decisions are going to be out of (Angels GM Tony Reagins') hands, and I'm sure he's going to be proactive on ones that can get done.

"There are always decisions that have to happen every year.

Bobby Abreu had no interest in spending another winter -- or even another week -- without an employer. The Los Angeles Angels were only too happy to oblige the slugger who transformed their lineup this year. The veteran outfielder agreed Thursday to a $19 million, two-year contract to stay with the Angels rather than test the free-agent market again.
