Jorge Posada hit a game-winning RBI single in the 12th inning to lift the New York Yankees to a 6-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. With one out and runners on first and second, Posada lined a 1-1 pitch from Shawn Camp into center field. Alex Rodriguez scored without a play as the Yankees poured out of the dugout to congratulate Posada near first base.

Alberto Callaspo dressed quickly and raced out of the ballpark to meet his wife at the airport. Perhaps the error-prone second baseman couldn't wait to tell her the Kansas City fans weren't so mad at him any more. His two hits and three RBIs enabled the Royals to double their run total of the four previous games combined and beat the Chicago White Sox 6-4 Saturday.

Just when one believes the Royals' offense can't get any worse, it finds a way to do so or do less.

The Royals managed just six hits, all of them singles, and were shut out 5-0 by White Sox lefty John Banks and reliever Scott Linebrink. It was the fourth straight game, all of the losses, the Royals have scored four runs or less.

The no-show offense spoiled another solid outing by Royals starter Zack Greinke. Granted, Greinke was not as his best, but he pitched well enough to win on many nights. Greinke gave up nine hits and four runs, but two were unearned because of second baseman Alberto Callapso's error in the third inning.

With the Royals' puny attack, any miscue that leads to a run or runs is difficult to overcome.

But the Chicago left-hander tinkered with the grip on his sinker and became even more dominant than usual against the Royals, taking a four-hit shutout into the ninth before settling for a 4-1 victory that gave the surging White Sox their sixth win in a row.

Shortstop Mike Aviles, Kansas City's player of the year last season, will undergo Tommy John surgery and be sidlined for up to 12 months. Manager Trey Hillman said Wednesday that Aviles will have ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow on July 8, another blow to a team that has been hit hard by injuries.

When it mattered most, Baker got the outs and the win. Justin Morneau homered for the third straight game and Baker labored through five tough innings, lifting the Minnesota Twins to a 2-1 victory over hapless Kansas City on Tuesday night.
