    Royals pitcher Gee out with 2 blood clots

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Right-hander Dillon Gee has two blood clots and will not pitch again this season for the Kansas City Royals. Gee was the winning pitcher Sunday at Detroit, but was hospitalized after the game. He returned Tuesday to Kansas City. “Dillon developed some shortness of breath after the game when we were packing up,” Royals manager Ned Yost said before Tuesday’s game against Minnesota. “Of course our training staff was phenomenal. They realized right away that something probably wasn’t right.     Detroit Tigers' Nick Castellanos could be back soon

    Detroit Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos could be back soon, if all goes well Tuesday in Lakeland, Fla. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Castellanos went 1-for-3 in an Instructional League game today that was called after 3 1/3 innings. Ausmus said Castellanos will play in a six-inning intrasquad game in Florida on Tuesday and bat leadoff every inning to ensure he gets six at-bats. Ausmus had said Sunday that Castellanos would play in Instructional League games Monday and Wednesday. Ausmus said today there isn’t a game on Wednesday like he originally thought. “If everything goes well tomorrow, we’ll make a decision,” Ausmus said of what is next for Castellanos.
