If Detroit is taking the trade route as the highway to improve its team—and general manager Dave Dombrowski vows "there is no question about that"—it would appear high-ceiling right-hander Edwin Jackson will be the vehicle the Tigers use to improve their offense.

"To me, you're always in position where you listen to what people have to say," Dombrowski said in a recent discourse on the club's financial situation. "I don't know what we're going to do at this point. These are just conversations at the moment.

"If we make any trades, I would assure you that we will make a trade because we think it's a good trade for us. But if we make any trades—and that's if—we'll settle on a situation that makes sense.

Double-A third baseman Ron Bourquin in the Detroit Tigers' organization was suspended for 50 games on Thursday after testing positive for an amphetamine. Bourquin will serve the suspension at the start of next season. He hit .283 with three home runs and 58 RBIs in 81 games last season for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Class A Midwest League.

Thames, a Tiger since 2004, hit .252 last season with 13 homers and 36 RBIs in 87 games. Treanor played in four games before undergoing surgery on his right hip April 30.

The team said Wednesday the procedure at the Detroit Medical Center addressed chronic patellar tendinitis that plagued Inge last season. Scott Sizemore, the Detroit Tigers' minor league player of the year in 2009, has undergone surgery on his fractured left ankle. The Tigers say a surgeon inserted screws Tuesday to stabilize Sizemore's ankle joint, which was then immobilized. He is to have the screws removed in January and is expected to be ready for the start of spring training in February.
