Another reason has surfaced why Detroit deserves its lowly AL Central standing—no clutch hitting.

The Tigers entered play Tuesday night as the only team in the AL Central with a lower batting average with runners in scoring position than its overall batting average.

On Tuesday, the Tigers only produced two runs, one in the first and another in the second.

They loaded the bases in the sixth but could not score.

The Tigers were hitting .264 as a team but .251 with runners in scoring position. By contrast, the division-leading Minnesota Twins were hitting .311 with runners in scoring position but only .265 overall.

The Tigers hit .311 with runners in scoring position last season.

Jose Guillen has turned jeers into cheers. He was booed after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts to drop his average to .165 on May 5. Since then, Guillen has put together a five-game hitting streak, going 10-for-18, with five doubles, to raise his average to .216.
