The Cubs moved closer to wrapping up business for the offseason by their recent signings of arbitration-eligible pitchers Sean Marshall and Carlos Marmol.

But they have one piece of business awaiting them, and it could get nasty. The team appears headed to its first arbitration hearing since 1993, as it has failed to get close to an agreement with shortstop Ryan Theriot.

Theriot, who made $500,000 last year, is seeking a $3.4 million salary, while the Cubs have countered with a $2.6 million offer. General manager Jim Hendry has made other "midpoint" agreements with his arbitration cases, but he appears to think even $3 million for Theriot is too high.
