He had a 10.50 ERA in seven relief appearances during two stints with the Red Sox this season.</description>

&lt;p&gt;The 24-year-old lefty was one of the key figures listed in the ever-present trade rumors between the Minnesota Twins and Red Sox when left-hander Johan Santana was deemed available, and those thoughts certainly could have been swirling around in Lester's head as he toed the rubber on Friday night.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The southpaw had been on a roll of sorts as he'd allowed only five hits during his last two starts, and had put up an amazing 0.64 ERA during that span.
