David Hernandez might render Koji Uehara useless.

The rookie right-hander, in the rotation after Uehara injured his elbow, looked sharp Friday in a 6-4 win against the Angels. He pitched into the seventh inning, tossing 107 pitches to improve to 2-2.

The Sacramento, Calif., native wasn't overpowering pitching in front of family and friends, but he limited the Angels to three runs on six hits and two walks.

"Impressive. Impressive," manager Dave Trembley said. "He kept throwing strikes, using all his pitches well. He can get away with throwing that high fastball."

Hernandez can reach the high-90s with his fastball. He made just one mistake, elevating a hittable pitch to Kendry Morales, who belted a two-run homer to make the game interesting.

Hernandez...
