The Braves' glory years in the 1990s were built on strong starting pitching, and the team was competitive this year thanks to a good starting staff.

In an attempt to maintain the tradition, the Braves were working on a three-year contract for veteran right-hander Tim Hudson.

The details of the contract had not been finalized, but Hudson discussed the deal with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"I'm excited that I'm going to be with this organization for another three years because I think we have a chance to be really good," he told the newspaper. "I'm excited about being able to help the organization get back to the position we used to be in, which is a championship club.
