To make room for Petit on the roster, infielder Ryan Roberts was optioned to Triple-A Reno. The right-handed Petit has been on the disabled list since May 9 with a strained right shoulder.

D-backs manager A.J. Hinch believes he has three All-Stars, and he has the telephone bill to Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel to prove it.

Pitcher Dan Haren, outfielder Justin Upton and corner infielder Mark Reynolds have received backing from Hinch, although all three must be chosen by alternative means since the fans have not provided enough support.

"Endless messages. Each time, I've given him more info. The messages get longer and longer. I just want to remind him every now and then what we are doing out here in the desert," Hinch said of his attempts to reach Manuel.
