Last season, Chone Figgins found his groove and couldn't seem to be shaken out of it. From May 31 through the end of the season, he led the majors with a .381 batting average.
That kind of groove has been far more elusive for the Angels' leadoff hitter this season.
Figgins was sidelined by a hamstring injury in May and June that forced him to the disabled list twice for a total of 33 games. In late June, an abrasion on his left knee became infected. He missed just one game, but Figgins said the medication he had to take left him feeling sluggish.
"I can honestly say, yeah, it did," he said. "I don't make excuses. But for someone who doesn't like to take anything, it affects you."
Meantime, Figgins' father suffered a seizure related to high blood pressure. ...More |
