Are the Los Angeles Angels really interested in CC Sabathia or is it an act of gamesmanship directed at Mark Teixeira and his slow-moving agent Scott Boras? Only the front office in Anahein knows for sure.

The Los Angeles Angels reportedly are readying themselves to jump into the CC Sabathia sweepstakes, but the New York Yankees met the news with relative indifference, still believing their offer ultimately will be the biggest and best, the New York Daily News reported.

It has been 12 days since the Yankees offered Sabathia a six-year, $140 million deal, which would be the biggest contract for a pitcher in history. According to a report in Tuesday's Los Angeles Times, the Angels have shifted their focus from first baseman Mark Teixeira to Sabathia, which would throw a wrinkle in the Yankees' plans to sign the big lefthander.

One Yankees official didn't seem too concerned with the news of the Angels' supposed interest in Sabathia, which the Bombers believe is designed primarily to speed things up with Teixeira and his agent, Scott Boras.

"It sounds like they're trying to get a message to Teixeira," the official said. "That's the guy they really want."

Boras has been seeking a 10-year deal for Teixeira, but the Angels reportedly are reluctant to go higher than seven years. With those talks slowing, the Angels appear interested in turning their sights to Sabathia, a California product who many believe wants to pitch in his home state.

Yeah, we all know how wise the Yankees are when it comes to making deals. They are a joke.

Economy these days, I don't think these guys are gonna get their asking price. Unless the Yanks go around a F everything up, by offering too much and that makes other team have to go higher. ALL teams, stay low and wait for the players to have to take the deal.

Don't put it past the Angels to get more starting pitching than they need. That's their m.o. anyway.

CC is a terrific person and a dominating pitcher. It shows to his character that he is trying NOT to accept the NY offer.

CC will be a bust in NY. He's delaying his decision knowing the best offer is already on the table. Let's get off the CC boat and start pursuing Peavy, Sheets and home grown Pettite. That would be a solid starting rotation and we could also save some $$$ instead of putting all of our eggs in CC's basket......

The Yankees will not sign Peavy dont have the players to do it with. Ben Sheets imagine signing a player that have are problems and something goes wrong ALA Carl Pravano. Yankees fans will goes nuts. The Yankees have already play that game of not singing the best free agent or trading for him (J Santana) do you actually think they will let that happen again I think not.

CC is the first option but it appears he doesn't want to sign here. I would focus on getting Burnett and Sheets. Thus, the rotation would be Wang, Burnett, Sheets, Hughes & Pettite. I'd put Kennedy in a trade package to get Peavy if I couldn't get Sheets. Pettite would be the 5th starter and I'd just keep Joba as my eight inning guy. Hopefully Hughes will become the solid 4th starter.

I agree with #9. If he doesn't want to be here, use that money to get 2 or 3 others that way one bust doesnt hurt the team and the pocketbook for the next 5 years.

This sounds like another one of those "phantom offers"
Weren't the Mets, Dodgers and Giants supposed to be sending a "rival offer"??
I'll believe the Angels only when they officially submit an offer.
Other than that, it's just smoke and mirrors.

One thing about Theo Epstein and the Red Sox, they don't talk about any free agents they may or may not be negotiating with. I think that is the best approach.

Morning Dav. Thanks for sticking out for me. I wish Bombers would sign Pettitte again. I personally feel that he still got game and he would be a great mentor to the guys fresh out of the draft pick. Kind of like moving from high school to collage, it's always nice to have a senoir to show you around campus.
BTW, I finally figured out what's wrong with the @$$head faker. OK, not really, just a deferential diagnosis. Go back to the "Angel's Offer to Sabathia.... $140mil" thread.

CC likes to hit, and he can ! What a waste to see him go to the A.L. and watch someone else swing the bat for him.
It's exciting to me to see a pitcher get out there and help his own winning cause by driving in a run.

I have a comment for 14 regarding trading for peavy and joba first of all joba is not the 8th inning guy cause he is in the rotation which in my mind is a big time mistake but let ny do that and about peavy giving up kennedy will not do it cause it would have to be at least 2 more guys besides him like cano and hughes.

I am positive that the Angels want to sign Mark very badly. Whether Mark wants to stay on the west coast maybe another matter. The Angel say that can't afford both players. I believe CC has stated he would like to live on the west coast. If the Angels don't want to lose both players, and If Mark does not sign quickly, or feel the club has the inside track, the Angels will have to turn their attention to CC in order to remain the CC sweepstakes. Otherwise the Angels will likely loose both players.
