Yankees not pursuing Greinke

Zack GreinkeKansas City Royals ace Zack Greinke(notes) may be one of the best pitchers available this offseason, but the New York Yankees aren't going after him, even though they lost out in the battle for Cliff Lee(notes), according to the New York Post.

The Royals have Greinke on the trading block and the word is that K.C. doesn't like the players available from the Yankees' side of the trading table.

The Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers are said to be interested in trying to obtain Greinke, who went 10-14 with 181 strikeouts this past season for the Royals.

Kansas City isn't definitively going to trade Greinke, MLB.com points out, but if it did, it would want "Major League-ready up-the-middle position players" in return, the site reports.
