MLB - Scoop Du Jour

New York Yankees left fielder Randy Winn(notes) is hitting .213 with one homer this season. Those aren't exactly the numbers the team expected him to produce when he replaced Johnny Damon(notes) in the offseason.

Now comes word from the New York Daily News that Winn may get designated for assignment Friday when Curtis Granderson(notes) returns from the disabled list to do battle against the Cleveland Indians. Granderson has missed 24 games due to a strained left groin.

That would be a not-so-nice early birthday present to Winn, who turns 36 on June 4. Another option the Yanks have is to send Kevin Russo(notes) back to the minors.
