It was last week that Hal Steinbrenner confirmed the Yankees' offer to C.C. Sabathia before offering a qualifier, saying, "It's not going to be there forever." If you think about it, how could it be? One of two things will eventually happen - Sabathia will sign with the Yankees, or he'll sign elsewhere. The offer will not be on the table forever.

It seems that Steinbrenner's off-hand comment was just that - a simple re-stating of the facts. SI.com reported Monday that the Yankees have no plans to pull their six-year, $140 million offer to Sabathia, just because the left-hander has deliberated for more than a week on it. Sabathia is the Yankees' top priority and they are willing to wait for him to make his decision.

The report noted that the Yankees "remain the favorite" to land Sabathia's services, though they are not alone. The Dodgers, Giants, Angels, Red Sox and Brewers are all thought to have interest in signing Sabathia, though nobody has stepped up yet into the Yankees' financial realm.

How can you possibly turn down a $140 million off when you only play one out of five games or 1 out of 3 at most

Nah Darby. I hope he signs with the Yanks cuz who else is there? Left Handed pitchers that are proven (Cy Young worthy) and throw 98 with incredible other pitches?
He'll be healthy for a long time cuz he's all fat. You can't pull or strain that. CC is gonna be sick on the Yanks.
CC. Burnett, Wang is not bad. the best in the league in fact at least if they all are healthy, which is a problem for the latter 2.

They guy won't get anything better from any of those other teams, as much as he might wanna pitch on the west coast how many teams can really give the money that he wants. The Angels needs worry about their offense, and the Yanks need pitching help the most of any of the teams listed to maybe get CC. He needs to realize its the best offer on the table.

Sure, let him go to the yankees. Best pitcher on the market. Proven in the AL, which is key. The money is outrageous, but what deal isnt these days.
Now for burnett and tex. I dont think both will go to the yanks like Yankeefan said, but maybe they will pull off one.

1 out of every 5 games would give the yankees a .200 winning percentage. this would be a great deal if they could start him every day, but with wang and his fragile foot and the rest of the rotation being aaa prospects, they have a lot more work to do. even aj is an injury risk.
i think the yankees could be golden again, but they are going to have to stop spending all their money on big name free agents and spend some on development.
besides, cc has been taking a flyer on the yankees. maybe he's not willing to sell out quite yet. i think giants could get him.

I think the Yanks SHOULD NOT sign Sabthia. By no means am I a Yankee fan, but I use my head. NY is where all pitchers go to die. Going from small town to big town has killed pitchers. Look at Randy Johnson. He was magnificient. Then he went to New York. I did not say he had a bad season, but he definitley had a drop in performance. When he left, he was a little better than he left NY, but that is probably from age. Another example. Anyone remember a guy named Carl Pavono? The Yankees should farm grow talent like the Marlins (my hometown team), and then they build on them. The Yanks gotta start thinking with their heads, instead of their wallets like the rest of the US.

Waterski, I know him he's in the plumbers union and his first name is Stanley!! Anyway who pulling who's pud here, the Yankees want him signed yesterday, last week, whenever!!! I've said this before I have a feeling this is going to be a lean free agent season for the Bombers!!! I'd give up five plates of linguine with white clam sauce, well, maybe three, if the Yankees could sign CC, AJ and Tex. That's a serious offer on my part!!!

Sabathia, is staying in the national leauge, where the hitting sucks, he is no fool, otherwise he would have took the Yankee offer, no one else is going to give him that much money. Besides he is like Arod, chokes in the playoffs.

angloamer I do think he is staying in the N.L because the A.L hitting is better and plus C.C would be playing in the toughest division in baseball, i don't think he is relishing playing the red sox and rays hitters several times a year and be made to look silly and then be ripped by the n.y media because of it.
