New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter(notes) will be back in the majors on Monday, looking to move closer to 3,000 hits unless something unforeseen happens with his rehab, the New York Post reports.

Jeter currently has 2,994 hits in the big leagues. The celebration for Jeter becoming the only Yankee in history to reach 3,000 has had to be pushed back while he spent time on the disabled list with a left calf strain.

The plan is for Jeter to leave Tampa, where he's been working out, and play rehab games on Saturday and Sunday for the Double-A Trenton Thunder before returning to the Yankees, the Post reports.

"I feel good now," Jeter said, according to the Post. "I feel a lot better. I'm ready to get out of here."
