What exactly is Jose Reyes thinking these days? Like New York Mets fans, Reyes expects better play at shortstop and showed his frustration by throwing a fit on the field. The Mets edged the Yankees, 3-1, Sunday to leave Shea Stadium for St. Louis with a four-games-to-two Subway Series triumph, but Reyes appeared to have another meltdown for the second straight game.

With two outs in the seventh inning, Melky Cabrera sent an easy grounder to Reyes, who threw high toward first, pulling Carlos Delgado off the bag. It seemed Delgado would be able to catch the ball and tag Cabrera, but the ball glanced off the tip of his glove and then bounded into the Mets' dugout, giving Cabrera second base. Reyes was charged with the error. What followed was a Little League-like temper tantrum. As the next batter, Jose Molina, was flying out to right field to end the inning, Reyes threw his glove and sunglasses to the ground, letting everyone at Shea witness his lack of self-control. Reyes later said losing his cool was a result of a season's worth of fielding frustration.

"I don't feel happy with the way I've played defense so far this year, so I've got 11 errors, so I don't feel happy," Reyes said. "That's an easy play for me right there."

Interim manager Jerry Manuel brushed off the error as part of the game and said he didn't bother sitting down the shortstop to address the outburst.

"Physical errors happen all the time," Manuel said.

"I made a lot of errors on routine ground balls," Reyes added. "That's not me. That's why I got mad, because I've got plenty of time to throw that ball in the chest to Delgado. That's not the way I want to play shortstop. I didn't play that way last year."

Reyes is right about that. His 11 errors this year almost match the 12 he committed all of last season. At the season's halfway point, Reyes is on track to set a career high in errors, surpassing the 18 he committed in 2005. At this point last season, he was also hitting .319, not his current .296.

Calling it a tantrum seems a bit much. He threw his glove down in frustration and took responsibility for it.

delgado should have got that ball, he may not have gotten the out but could have kept Melky from reaching second.

I'm a Mets fan and I agree Hanley is better. However, Reyes is still one of the best short stops out there. Probably #2 in the NL behind Hanley Ramirez. Regardless if he has a tantrum, he is an exciting player and the Mets need him more than anyone. Reyes is a passionate player, and always wants to play. He can help win a game so many different ways. What is wrong with that?

EDWIN----Man oh man---You are doing good smart post. ---You are so right. Hanley is better, But Reyes is pretty good too. Do we all have to look at who is #1 and think everyone who is less is nad. Reyes is pretty good and so are a few other SSs. While he need not get to emotional about it in public. Atleast he is showing he took blame for the throw, but I admit it looked like del could of had it. It was a off throw. Reyes Throw was the E. You make a good point. He wants to stay in the game. He did not want to be taken out when he tweaked his Hammy. He could of said Yeah Let me just collect my check on the bench.

Anyone who has anything bad to say about this probrably shouldn't be a fan. I find it good that a All-star caliber player gets down on himself for not performing. At least he's not like screw it I'm a millionanire, I always like it when a player wants to do better especially top tier players.....it's good to see that some of these spoiled millionaires actually still care about improving.
