With the New York Mets' Pedro Martínez out for six weeks and Arizona Diamondbacks' lefty Doug Davis scheduled for cancer surgery, there seem to be openings for David Wells with at last those two teams according to the Boston Globe.
But so far neither has budged. "David is ready to go and could be ready to pitch in a major league game in two weeks," said Wells's agent, Gregg Clifton. "He's been frustrated because he wants to pitch so badly, but I told him to hang in there for another month."

shal---The thought of a 10 contract would be rediculous by most standards, But i got to agree with you. I would actually go just a little further and say perhaps 21 days. Enough for 3 or 4 starts. I would not write off the guy if he did so so in first 2 starts. He might just need those 2 to get back into the game at his full strenth. A more likely deal will be a season contract, but it should have out clauses in them should he faulter. We should not be stuck with him should he not have enough gas in the tank.

Heilman will never start for the mets. it's been how long that this has been talked about? 4 years now? if he hasn't started in 4 years why would he start now.
Wells i have no comment, why do teams always look outside the organization? the mets should look within, if it's pelfrey, figeuroa, sosa,or anyone else in the minors. why not give them a shot to show what they have before spending unnecessary money on free agent fill-ins?
oh and freddy garcia won't be ready to even think of pitching until the earliest July, and eric milton is unsigned becuase of one reason he stinks.
