Carlos Delgado probably expected the curtain to drop quickly on the latest local media firestorm of the 2008 baseball season. But Monday night's rainout against the Pirates only meant that the controversy over Delgado's curtain-call snub of the fickle faithful at Shea on Sunday could be discussed and dissected at length for another full day.

Delgado didn't believe his seventh-inning solo home run Sunday, his second of the game, merited a curtain call. Delgado also insisted he wasn't looking to "send a message" to fans who've booed him and a few of his teammates (mostly the bullpen) throughout April, although he admitted he's unsure whether his non-action will affect his relationship with the home crowd.''

"Sometimes you do things and you have to live with it. If that's the case, that's the case," Delgado said during an engaging 20-minute back-and-forth with reporters. "What am I going to do, turn around and say to Willie (Randolph), 'I'm not going to play because they're booing me?' I don't think that's going to happen, sir."   He also responded, "Not by any means" when it was suggested the constant booing rapidly has turned the Shea atmosphere into an "us-against-them" mentality.

I'm a Mets Fan and even I have no defense for some of the so-called die hard Met fans as Shea this year. First they boo Heilman & Schoenweiss on opening day during introductions at Shea before they have a chance to do anything. Then they boo Santana after a sub-par start for Santana but it was far from bad at his 1st game pitching in NY. I have to problem with booing Delgado, and Heilman with the way they have been performing but don't expect a curtain call once he actually does something.

I was at this game...Delgado really didn't get a chance to do a curtain call because Raul Casanova was digging right in to hit after the home run and wasn't really stepping out of the box to allow a curtain call. I don't blame him at all either for not coming out. I'm a huge Mets fans but the city folk all are retarded with the way they treat their players.

I think we Mets fans are justified in booing Delgado. He has been horrible this year. When he hits two home runs, we cheer. Do we care if he takes a curtain call? No, not really. It's sort of like yelling at your kid when he doesn't do his homework. Overall, do you hate that he didn't do his homework? Yes. Do you still love him? Yes. Do you expect him to do his homework in the future? Yes. Will you yell at him again when he forgets? YES! Will you cheer when he gets a good grade on his homework? YES! See how this goes?

I m aYankee fan since 1956 and have Never booed one of players on my team ever. You have to take the bad times as well as the good times. If you alternately boo and cheer your team players , you are nothing much moare than a wrestling fan . stay behind your team players at all times.

Good grief what is wrong with NY fans they boo a player all season then expect him to come out and play nice when he hits a lousy homerun. No wonder Delgado didnt come out, I think it was his way of telling the Mets fans "screw youuuu". Can't really blame him can you?

Ahh the fickle fans of New York apparently they dont know how to take the good times with the bad times. But then expect a player like Delgado to autograph there lousy hat or baseball and be nice after they boo him all season. You obviously have to learn how to take the good with the bad, and quite being so fickle.

Yeah, I blame the guy. With the money people pay to go to the games, along with parking, buying a hotdog and beer, t-shirts etc. they have the right to boo a player who is not performing, as long as they keep it clean.

I dont agree with the booing of any player whether it be one on your favorite team or your biggest rival. These guys go out there and play to entertain us the fans. Everyone has bad days, everyone has good days, and then there are the days that we just get by with. I'm a Mets fan and have witnessed countless fans boo players, its a disgrace and a lack of respect to those around you. It's very simple show a little class and try not letting a GAME get you so upset there are worse things in life than Delgado popping out, Zito walking a batter, or any other player not playing well. Oh and booing happens everywhere not just in NY.

They'd boo Jesus... at the second coming!
They'd boo their own Grandma... On her 100th birthday! (Well, she's only batting 100?)
They'd boo the groom... at their brother's wedding!
They'd boo the Pope... Hey, that's why it the mass was held at Yankee Stadium!
Maybe the stadium ran out of beer and they are calling for more booze?

These are such great comments from people that have never stepped in the batter's box of major league pitching. Hitting is the most difficult and frustrating thing in any sport period. You fail 7 out of 10 times and you're a great hitter. Delgado has had a great career and is still a great hitter. I respect a guy that is struggling and just cuz he has one good day, he doesn't feel like he deserves a curtain call. Most players would jump out of the dugout at any opportunity to get attention. Delgado knows that he has not been performing to his ability and therefore does not take the curtain call. It has nothing to do with getting back at the fans for booing him. I think it's classy if you ask me. I do agree though that NY sports fans are dumb!

This is crazy for one I am a Mets fan have been a long time as well as other professional sports teams. People boo players all the time when they do not do good it does not matter if its New York or Cleveland (also a Browns fan),but in reality its their job could we all imange if we where booed at work how long would you give it 100% after you were booed by your boss or co-workers. Everry sport players get booed at HOME by the HOME FANS but every week they still show up and play WOULD ANYONE of us do that?

Hey Eddie...you know what message Delgado was saying to you Muts fans? He is saying "good luck in your new stadium next year and it looks like you'll be waiting another 20 years to win a World Series".
    Free Willie...Randolph that is!
