The New York Jets on Sunday released veteran wide receiver Laveranues Coles, who may decide to retire, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Coles, 32, tells the paper that the team "may try to re-sign him after the first game of the season," but he isn't sure he wants to do that.

"I think I'm done,'' Coles told the paper. "I don't want to become one of those journeyman football players. I don't need the money. Coach [Rex Ryan] said I was doing well and they want to bring me back after the first game but I don't know. I don't think that's something I want to do."

Coles told the paper he wouldn't mind continuing his football career as a scout for the Jets.
