Mauer can do whatever he wants after next season but he supposedly would like to stay with the Minnesota Twins. But if the team doesn't offer him the kind of dough he wants, the American League MVP will be the object of a bidding war at the tail end of 2010.
"Formal negotiations between the sides have yet to begin," according to Passan. The Twins supposedly would like to do the deal by December 25.
