Coco Crisp

The Boston Globe reported the Boston Red Sox may not get into serious discussions for Johan Santana. However, the Minnesota Twins have a real interest in Boston outfielder Coco Crisp.

The Twins believe Crisp could replace Torii Hunter for less than half the cost.

Crisp is a major chip for the Sox in any trade discussions. The Rangers and Braves also are interested in him.

I hope the Braves look the other way. CoCo proved he can't play with a top notch team. Now the Nats on the other hand, or Fish, that could be a good fit.

How far they have fallen--Coco Crisp. Egads $MM for a black Jason Tyner? That Span fellah must be totally worthless if they are willing to pay Crisp $5-6 MM.

I would hold on to Coco until we know what happens to Mike Lowell.
If we lose Lowell, i would look to trade him for a 3B.

Coco is definantly a bargaining chip though I'm not sure he'll be used in any kind of talks with the Twins and Johann. If Lowell goes somewhere else maybe the White Sox or the Marlins would be interested in something for Crede or Cabrera.

Atlanta a pressure town...C'mon! you can't even fill your stadium during playoff games...what a joke! Coco is a serviceable out fielder and played hurt both years in bean town. PROBLEM: Ellsbury. he was given enough time to shine and took the spotlight making coco expendable b/c boston couldn't pay anyone enough to take drew. If I were a braves fan I would be thrilled with coco who is perfect for national league play and who knows maybe you will be a bride someday?

if LOWELL is signed again, use him for a 2nd catcher ( both catchers are 35 plus, need someone ready within a year to take over for Varitek
If he is not - then you better have him and some AAA prospect ready for a valid 3rd basemen. I'd rather save their Jed Lowrie to replace Julio Lugo as SS for the next 6 years rather than 3rd base and have Lugo for next 3 yrs

I still think Coco is a great 4th outfielder for the sox. He can be a replacement in any field. pinch runner great late inning defensive replacement. It is nice to be able to say you can improve defence when you need to sit any of your outfielders and that's what coco can give you.

I find it ironic that they show a picture of Coco bunting, when he (and the rest of the Sox) so often failed at performing this properly.

Coco had a great year in the field last year. Coulda won a golden glove. If Ellsbury hadn't played so well in the playoffs, Coco would be back with Boston next year. He's a good outfielder.

bbbloger compared Coco to Jason Tyner - what??!! You are a clown! Crisp has sruggled, no doubt, but he hasn't been 100% for a while and still was the best defensive CF in the AL this year. He is a poor man's Torii Hunter/Johnny Damon. I think the Twinkies would be smart to pursue him.

all of you coco bashers seem to forget how coco played while he was healthy. At the beginning of the 2006 season he hit .330 for the month of april and then got injured. he's never recovered and once healthy will be back to where he was in cleveland. ellsbury is the better pick in center but whoever gets coco will get a quality player. yes coco was a disapointment but atleast he did more than drew

#13 is right. Crisp is a relative bargain and the Red Sox can afford to have him be a great bench outfielder. Who else could give them that kind of defense and offense off of the bench and if by chance one of their outfielders gets hurt it wouldn't be that much of a setback with an outfielder of his caliber coming in; hang on to him, give Lowell 4 years and look for pitching. The Red Sox don't need a major make-over.

let coco go id love to see andruw jones on the redsox, he would help cover left field since manny has no clue , i think he will have a bounce back year, he is still young and i could see him in that line up somewhere in with manny, papi, lowell and youk,he will need to work on cutting down his strikeouts but i think the sox should go after him

I would hope that if the Sox are talking to Texas that Hank Blalock , Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Gerald Laird are the guys that they're looking at. Blalock, depending on what happens with Mike Lowell and Laird or Saltalamacchia as the catcher of the future.

The Twins believe Crisp could replace Torii Hunter for less than half the cost. Too bad the Red Sox don't see the logic in keeping a player that they "ARE" currently paying half the cost to. Why not get rid of J.D.Drew?

My point exactly--Crisp is NOT a power hitter and has a weak throwing arm. Paying him $5-6MM would be a complete waste. I did indicate he was a good fielder when I compared him to Tyner, because Tyner is fast and fields well. Neither hits for power or hold baserunners, thus they aren't worth a semi-premium salary. Veteran's minimum plus 10%, nothing more. Hunter wants OUT. Period. I will mis him, the Twins even more than they care to admit. ex-GM screwed up and that's why he's gone.
