Former Colorado Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba(notes) has had a heckuva offseason. First the Rockies basically reject him and then it appears that he's left to sign with the New York Mets, a team that he had a major issue with a few years ago when he thought the Mets damaged his signability with other clubs when the team made statements about Torrealba's physical status.
Now it appears he's trying to get the Mets involved in some sort of small bidding war for his services. The San Diego Padres have apparently offered Torrealba a one-year deal and Torrealba took the offer to the Mets to say, can you top this? According to ESPN, the Mets, who could use a top-line catcher after losing out on San Francisco Giants backstop Bengie Molina(notes), don't have enough cash to top the offer by the Padres.
