Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay(notes) has supposedly told the team that he's not going to waive his no-trade clause if no deal gets done before spring training gets started, according to the New York Daily News. He also supposedly told the team previously that he isn't planning to re-sign with the team when he becomes a free agent at the end o next year. So it would benefit Toronto to get a deal done in the next 11 weeks.
There are some who don't think Halladay put the spring training cutoff date on a deal, but there are enough who believe it at this juncture to certainly make a few general managers and their employees sit up in bed this morning a little quicker.
Halladay supposedly told his agent that he'd be happy to go to the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Halladay apparently doesn't want to deal with trade questions all the way up to the July 31 deadline again as he did this past summer, according to the paper. "One thing is certain - once Roy reports to spring training as a member of the Blue Jays, from that point forward he will not approve or even discuss any potential trade scenario," his agent said. "This will eliminate a repeat of the distracting media frenzy of 2009 for both Roy and his teammates, and will allow Roy to focus on pitching at the exceptional level Jays fans have come to expect."
