Roy Halladay back on trading block

“RoyFormer Toronto Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi really, really tried to unload Roy Halladay(notes) before the trading deadline at the end of July and couldn't find the right deal. Some folks apparently think he blew it, but the current Blue Jays GM, Alex Anthopoulos, reportedly thinks he's still in a pretty good spot.

He's basically suggesting that Halladay is back up on the trading block. The Jays won 75 games last year and Halladay wants to be playing for a better team right about now, according to the National Post: "I think he's stated that his timeline for winning and ours may not mesh and may not match for us right now," he said.

There aren't a lot of strong free-agent pitchers on the market this off-season so the demand should still be high for the 32-year-old Halladay who won 17 games last year and struck out 208. He's got only one year left on his contract and is owed $15.75 million.

Let the bidding begin.

If the Yankees were to pick up Halladay, they'd get the #2 starter they'd need... Imagine -- CC, Halladay, Burnett, Pettitte (if he comes back)/Wang, and a fifth starter(Mitre/Gaudin?).
And, while we're at it, why can't Joba and Hughes both be in the pen? Smoltz went from starter to reliever. Sooner or later, someone is going to have to try to replace Mo. Why can't the Yankees develop some other minor leaguer into a starter? Can't they get the guys who contributed major developments to guys like Lester or Halladay or whoever is going to win the Cy Young awards this year?
    LET'S GO, Yankees!

The Phils would have won the World Series if they had one more top of the line starter, such as Halladay.

Dodgers - Billingsley or Broxton for Halladay. Maybe even both if Anthopolous drives a hard bargain and throws in an A-ball kid. Both guys have a lot of upside and cost a lot less than Halladay, but are just never going to reach their potential in a Dodgers' uniform.

    davafied,
It was stated that the Yankees are tightening up their purse strings this winter. I doubt they want to spend what Halladay would want.

Bronx, I'm sure you'd love to have Lincecum, Strausberg, Grienke, and Halladay all in reserves, just like I'm sure you'd love to have a time machine to make Jeter 10 years younger so he could play for another 10 years, grab onto Holliday and Bay, and call Barry Bonds out of retirement, get Mauer for back up to Posada, grab Pedroia to back up Cano, and not pay a friggin dime for any of them. Delerious Yankee fan!

It's a little more difficult for the Yankees to get a Roy Halladay who isn't a free agent, because you have to put together a package of players acceptable to Toronto, can't just write a check. In that sense it is more open to competition.

Real, so Halliday is gonna play for free? He'll be looking for a long term deal. That will devalue the Jays trade options to a team that can pay him.

Without a doubt, Roy Halladay is going to be the biggest name on the trading market. This should be exciting.

    jd,
Is that code for saying the only team that has a shot at Halladay is the Yankees? If the Jays cannot get a package of decent young ballplayers they may as well keep Roy for 2010.

Real, come on now. The Yankees will offer a suite at Yankee Stadium, that is sitting empty because no one can afford it, Jeter's first child, the rights to Roger's life story and a case of chocolite milk. If the Angels are lucky, they can make it a 3 team deal and Toronto gets Gary Mattews Jr. The Angels would get out from under his contract and get a ballboy to be named later.

He should go to the Yankees they need to pay 80 million more than any other team instead of the 60 million they do now. So all the dumb Yankee fans can get excited about a team winning the title like they should.
MLB is a JOKE!!! Here is a league that makes it as unfair for other teams as possible. There are teams in the league that could only afford about 5 of the players from the Yankee's team, but yet there suppose to play them and win? What a F in JOKE!!!

I'd like to see Roy Halladay come to Chicago. I think if Carlos Zambrano would agree to a trade then the Cubs would eat the salary difference. At least both teams would be getting a quality pitcher.

I'm a Yankees fan and would like Roy on our team as much as any other fan would want the same for their team. I think the only way the Yanks go after him is by not resigning Damon, Matsui and Pettite retiring. They would get another ace and still significantly cut their payroll. It would certainly hurt their depth in the batting order but I would rather get top quality pitching instead.
